I'm caught mostly between the physics and the AI. We've all seen the awe-inspiring physics capabilities of the Source engine, but in a lot of interviews Gabe seems to be most proud of the realism of the characters in HL2. I'm wondering how realistic they can make the personalities of the characters. Alyx seems pretty cool and the G-man kicks a$$, but I'm wondering if the acting will be more towards a bad 80's movie or a Shakespearean play. Of course there's how the AI applies to fighting, but I have a lot of confidence that Valve will be able to pull that off with flying colors.
I get the impression that most people aren't anticipating how the game plays when you aren't fighting, but sometimes it's the little things that make it truly feel "real". I hope to see ants and moths and plenty of other little creatures with their own AI (that could be wishful thinking, but there's always HL3).
