You all remember the G-Man movie right? What did the good man say when he was talking that foreign language (sounded like spanish to me)?

it was chienese

and I can't remember what he says. But it isnt significant i dont think :)

Wasnt it the same as what he said in english? Im probably wrong, but I thought it was just show how they can sync their lips with the words. But, oh well....lol, Im sure its probably the real release date or something, its just that none of us can speak Chinese (or atleast to me knowledge)

It wasnt the same thing in Chinese. I can remember that much. But it wasn't anything important. I am pretty sure of that. Someone did translate it. But I cant damn remember

I can understand what g-man say, that's true chinese.
Here is the translation:
It seems that we don't have a chance to work together.

In Chinese: ¿´À´£¬ÎÒÃÇûÓкÏ×÷µÄ»ú»áÁË¡£
The chinese above probably can't be displayed correctly in your computer cause your computer might not support the code.

That's interesting. I wonder what context he's saying that in, or if it was just recorded for the demo...

I think that demo only want to tell us how powerful the source engine is,nothing else.

The context is simply the line he says at the end of HL1 if you DON'T step into the portal.

Well it looks like we won't be working together

That's the exact line in HL1 that the Chinese bit in the video relates to.

hehe, the G-Man's voice acting in HL1 was very poor. Emphasis and pauses in the dialogue were always in the wrong places :D

The bit in the end dialogue where he says "No regrets Mr. Freeman" sounds like he's really constipated. "N-o... re........arghhhhgrets Mr.... Freeeeeman"

I thought that was Valve's way of saying 'LOOK this G-MAN is an ALIEN' - it's well known that aliens often speak English with a lisp, or stutter a bit.

Maybe they made up the whole 'oh, he's an alien' bit post-HL1 after realising the voice acting sucked? :)

He *almost* reminds me of Mr. Smith from the matrix.... except he does a much better job at sounding sinister

G-Man isn't an alien as far as we know. That's one of the many theories, but we certainly don't know what Valve's planning on doing with the G-Man. Maybe he's an alien, maybe it's a bit Star Wars style and G-Man is Freeman's father or brother, maybe he's just a government man, maybe he's my mother. Who knows? :D

He is very Agent Smith like.

As far as i can tell, G-man is an alien

g-man has alien blood...just keep that in mind..

Because he looks like a human, sounds like a human, speaks like a human, walks like a human?

I see what you mean...

I don't think it was poor voice acting. Valve wouldn't allow that. That's just the way G-man sounds, it adds character to him.

Actually i don't think that was poor voice acting. It added a lot to the game the way he spoke.

"It seems that we don't have a chance to work together."

It's an omen! He was speaking of the delay!

Where are all the sound files (The ones that were used for character quotes and stuff) for HL listed again?

also if HL2 is set quite a few years in the future, wasn't it 25 or 30 or something? and if the gman was in his late 30's mid 40's in HL1 he'll be getting on quite a bit now, I'd be surprised if he puts in an appearance in HL3 unless its directly following events in HL2

If you still have your original version installed (i.e. the version on there before Steam that runs on WON) then they are stored in the pak0.pak file in your \Sierra\Half-Life\valve\ directory. Search Google for "pak viewer" or download the Half-Life Model Viewer from http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/files/hlmv125.zip which is a HL1 model viewer which has a built in .pak viewer.

From what I've heard it's 5 or 15 years.

actually its Freeman thats the alien, what other scientist geek can pick up a crowbar and totally own an entire facility full of combat trained special forces cleanup teams

G-man is an alien in human form so the player can relate to him, if it'd been an alien it wouldnt have been quite so bonding and you'd remember him as a hideous joke. I remember reading it somewhere just after Half Life was released.

It hasn't been mentioned. All we know is that it's after the Black Mesa incident and Alyx (who must be about 24 years old max) must already have been alive as her mother died in the Black Mesa incident. A specific time scale hasn't yet been revealed, but I'm sure it will be within the story.

Valve wants us to start the game confused. People that haven't played HL1 won't quite know what the hell is going on, and people that have will be confused because the last thing we remember is jumping into the portal.

This'll be another reason why they've not revealed much at all, and probably won't until it's released.

Im sorry to have to put this publiclly but I've tried pming you Pvt. Ryan... and the thing is you're avatar is almost identical to my not xmas one except that its a gif, could you please change it to something else? thanks.

Gordon Freeman is an alien but he even doesn't know that.
Barneys and scientists are also aliens with human shapes.
G.I.s are actually scientists with army uniforms.
Remember the arrival of (the false) Gordon Freeman in Black Mesa, he was late. That's because he wasn't the true Gordon !
G-man is the true Gordon Freeman but he misses his HEV suit, that's what he tried to take it back by asking the (true) Barneys to disguise in (fake) aliens like bullsquids, barnacles, headcrabs or houndeyes...
And, maybe, the crowbar is not actually a true crowbar but certainly a shotgun...

You, sir, make my head hurt  That was more twists than a Twighlight Zone episode... Or at least a presidential scandal or summin

Imagine an ending such that of the "Smack my B**ch Up" video, playing through the entire game and story only to find out at the end that you actually ARE an alien, talk about a surprise eh?

:p

Isn't the reason why G-Man sounds so 'constipated' just because he has a speech impetiment (sp?). So, like, if you were walking down the street and someone comes up to you and says: "Have you ssssssseeen Half-Life 2? I heard the sssssssource got hacked!" would you pull out your crowbar, scream that they are an alien and batter them to death, all because he has a lisp?
Heh, I probably would, but because he's talking about Half-Life 2. And not with the crowbar, probably with something larger-calibre. Cheers, big ears

Maybe the G-Man is the end product of HUMAN genetic engineering and cloning.
