You should make this a poll.

I'll probably play in medium/hard the first time around, maybe if there is a "realistic" mode, I'll play that. I'm assuming that there is some sort of realistic mode because VALVe talked about how they were tweaking weapon management, in the e3 2k3 video, Gordon had to throw away his shotgun to pick up an RPG, but in the 2k4 videos, he could carry a whole arsenal. I guess we'll find out in a couple of months.

Valve said they got rid of the two reapon system because it just didn't work.

Hard. When I played HL1 it was easy, hard, easy, hard. The first time I formatted and lost my save, the second I got stuck in Questionable Ethics (the scientists were scared of me and I didn't have any earlier saves, so I restarted), I beat it on easy just 'cuz I didn't want to go through what I had just went through on hard, and now I'm replaying it on hard just so I can say I did it. I really don't want to have to keep replaying HL2 over and over, so the first time I play it'll be hard.

Medium - not too easy and fast and not too hard and not a chior like HL1 on Hard.

I'll play it on the hardest possible so it'll probably take longer to complete. Or maybe the easiest just to fool around. My vote goes to hard

Medium, because valve already said its gunna be longer than hl1 (didnt they?) and if you play it on tooooo hard it just become fustrating to replay the same thing over and over again. But then again i want a challange so medium is what ill be on.

i voted for easy, but iam not sure. i always used to automatically go for easy but i think i might make the jump up to medium for hl2.

Medium

Although if its anything like HL1, easey will be hard enough (OK... so it was my first ever fps using WASD keys ;))

You should. PLaying on easy is fun and alot faster but medium will just get you more involved and youll probally have more fun on it.

What does the difficulty level change? AI skillfulness? AI health?

I will probably play on Medium. I don't want it to be too easy and I don't want it to be too hard.

I hope it doesn't change AI health, that would be horrible. It usually changes the amount of health/ammo available, more skilled AI, sometimes a limited amount of saves, player takes more damage from weapons, falling, etc.

I have the strat guide for hl1 and it says that the enimies are tougher on higher difficulty and stuff like taht.

Yeah, but those were the old days, that was the only way to make enemies tougher, now you can make them smarter.

If it does make them smarter, I might play on medium. I don't want the game being unrealistic because the AI is overly stupid on easy mode. E.g. me shooting them, then hiding behind a box, and them not being able to find me when they look around, so they give up :p

I don't think playing on easy will make them dumb, just that playing on hard will make them more accurate with weapons, use grenades to flush you out, use group tactics, maybe they will even try to flank you.

But what do I know? Let's wait and see.

well, if what was in the E3 videos was medium I'll definitely play hard....I hope it was easy but I've heard it was on the medium level....

The E3 videos had to be on easy. When the enemy reloaded, they never took cover. Hell, in Tunnels, Freeman takes about 10 seconds to kill 2 guys (they're about 5 meters away), and he only gets hit once or twice. It was sickening, and he only lost 7 armor.

Medium at first. Then hard. Then hard again. Then hard with all the cheats enabled.

This has been discussed several times: most people want to do normal once, then hard the rest of the time.

Hard, as I am currently playing D3 on veteran to unlock nightmare, and beat FarCry on realistic, and HL was pretty darn easy for me (3 time through on hard), I think I would get board on easy or medium, besides I like a chalenge (if that isnt obvious). I also dont think that raising the diffaculty would distract me from the detail of the world, it would simply increase my appriciation for it after surviving a major battle...

I am probably going to play it on easy. But the thing is, I want to play on medium because the AI will be smarter, and I want a nice challenge and be blown away my first time through.

But it will most likely end up easy.

Sigh, well everything anyone posts has been discussed several times now. There's really nothing else to talk about now is there? And thanks for speaking for everyone.

You have to atleast play sp 2 times.

2nd time to do some diffrent things and see thee AI react in an other way.

first medium and than hard

I dont think the difficulty will effect the AI like you guys are describing. I hope not atleast. I assume it will just give enemys more hitpoints and make them more accurate and do more damage......the usual stuff, possibly with some other tweaks.

I'm thinking of starting on hard. I want to experience everything that Half-Life 2 will have right off the bat.
