What do I need to know to buy RAM?

I'm going to Best Buy soon to buy RAM and I was wondering what sort of things I should know about my computer before go there. I don't want to buy the wrong thing and have it not work on my computer.

You need to know more about the Motherboard to buy the correct RAM. The first time I bought RAM, (1GB) it didn't cooperate with my Mobo; then it leaded to bigger problems.

And look up your motherboard or PC manufacturer model on their own site and find what RAM they tested that they know works.

But if you go to Best Buy you'll need to tell them the memory type (e.g. DDR, DDR2 DDR3, Rambus etc), memory speed (e.g. PC3200, PC6400 etc) and size (e.g. 512MB, 1GB).

The site is askiing me what the model is and my computer says it is model a1700n and the site has a list of a billion different model, and mine wasn't in there. So how do I find the right model?

all you need is four things:

1. Mem amount duh..
2. Mem Clock Speed
3. Mem Type, sd, ddr, ddr2 etc.
4. laptop or pc ram..
