What do MMOs need?

ideally I'd like a space exploration game with space and planetary missions (ship + player model) that stress exploration/science fiction rather than mind numbing time sinks meant to maximise their profit

This will not happen the way we would want it for some time. The company I work at now was attempting this and the sheer scope of it just made it impossible to work with. Also the designers and managers were idiots, but even still, we all knew we were working on something we would never finish in a reasonable timeframe even under the best of circumstances.

i bet by the time we figure out how to make it, a robot will do it for us. imagine a robot that creates games and uses all the knowledge in the world to compute the perfect game. It'll happen someday

star trek online promises this ..but I have little faith in anything any company promises about an mmo
