What do the Combines have in their army?

Hydra was supposed to be a Xen creature, right?

Very, very doubtful. Were talking about the Citadel here. Thats a Citadel control room.

The Hydra could possibly be Combine engineered.

In the E3 2003 video the Hydra attacked a Combine soldier.

The blue sphere itself? :p

The explosion in Citadel created a patrol sending the third-power onto the Earth.
If you can remeber, the blue sphere appeared in or near the Dark Fusion reactor. Plus, Alyx says, 'what's that?' I have plenty of evident to affirm that the dark fusion reactor upon the citadel is sending the Third-power, which is firstly introduced my Valve, unto the Earth

I doubt the third power is attracted to Earth via the teleporter - they are more likely the people Gman is referring to. "I've recieved some interesting offers for your services..." Thats the third power.
Also, the blue sphere isn't actually in the reactor. Its in another control room entirely. "What are they up to?" Is what Alyx says.

It is my mistake!

However, the third power seems to make G-man lost control on Gordon. It is more likely that the third power is hostile to G-man, rather than sending offers to G-man.

The E3 videos aren't in the game. So therefor Valve can re-write it as they please. They can say that the Hydra is a Combine device set loose on City 17 and the rebels if they want, it's up to them, it's not in the game so it's not writen in stone.

Yes, I know.
But until Valve does, I will assume that the Hydra is an enemy of the Combine.

Combine [BIG] what you fought was the human combine i mean imagine taking on the whole universes(redneck for you)

Simple, they released the Hydra to clean out the sewer of rebel hideouts. But they assumed they'd never have to fight it. Kind of like headcrab cannisters.

How can the Combine ‘simply release’ an Hydra in the sewers? I always thought the Hydra was attached to something below the surface, just like the Tentacle in HL. Not necessarily something big, but similar to a plant or something.
And if that’s the case, the combine can’t simply release it in the sewers. It has to be teleported there or is has to grow in the sewers. The Combine aren’t able to local teleport, so they’d have to plant ‘hydra seed’ in the sewers or something. :p

…I don’t know what’s my point, but I don’t think the Hydra is Combine.

Samon,Sir im saying what we fought were like the overwatch and stuff...they were half human... i mean like the combine, we have never really seen them in action before...they cold be like 10 times better than the overwatch(my guess only)

Will combine ever appear in HL2: E? Does the Valve enternally fosake this idea? Or is Valve still working on it?

It will cool if Gordon pours a tub of liquefied nitrogen into the pool, where the Hydra is dwelling in, and freezes it to death. That'll be so cool. :E

Hydra? sorry for being so clueless...anyway anything+nitrogen+pool=SWEET

Hydra was a cut enemy. Basicily it was a big blue tube of death, it was fun to see it kill things but it was no fun to fight as all that happened was you saw a blue streak, and then you were dead.

So i guess its as strong as the Boss in Opposing Force...wow

Either that, or it was just lame to see a blue blob cover the screen before you died.

blue screen...Hydra...erm can we get back to the nitrogen...

Hooray for Nitrogen !! :bounce:

I would like to see a slightly improved squad control in HL episodes -
E to tell a guy to join your squad or leave it, and separate keys to dispatch your squad and tell them to follow you. And it would help if they didnt use an SMG against a strider, or deliberately ignore cover.

This 'third power' in Ep 1, will it be a small intro or a full fledged army to destroy/help the resistance?

Yeah, I would definitely like the squad control to be improved. In HL2 they were just plain dumb didn't' take cover when they should, shot at Striders with smgs like you said and the most annoying thing of all has to be that if you told a squad to stay put they would just follow you anyway.

I really can't imagine what this third power could be, but it would be interesting if it was an enemy of the Combine so a enemy of my enemy is my friend thing could develop

NOt nesscarily* you could be enemy with them too as they and the combine want to fight, they probably want our planet too...

but considering we managed to give the combine a huge slap, they might help us by finishing the combine by attacking the combine homeworld and we fight the combine from Earth...

Or when they fight, we kill them both:cheese: YEAH EARTH RULES

Can we with our little minds contorl the Universes

...ADDED...

I can see a scene, their fighting
in some barren waste land and morning rises...the sun goes up and Gordon Appears With His Crowbar, and behind him is
EARTH the Combine try to fight off both off EARTH and the other dimension... we finish off the combine, then when we meet the survivors of the other Dimension We finish Them off as we made them do 90% of the fighting

:O That might just happen, but then again it would be too predictable:|

Fighting the Hydra isn't what Valve makes it out to be. In the Beta, when you spawn it, it's just a stationary tentacle that attacks you when you get near. (Obviously the AI isn't finished)

When it does attack you, it isn't "some blue blob doing something vague, then your dead". If they improved on the AI a little more, making it so it moved around a bit more, then it would be lots of fun.

Also, I have no idea why the hell they took the Female Assassin out. Best Assassin NPC type I've seen. Too bad it's glitchy D:

Yeah I want those dang assassins back. They were quite an opponent in HL1.

Well in the Beta they dual wield pistols, do cartwheels/flips, etc.

Therefore they are better :D

Also, in Raising the Bar they showed some concepts of a female Combine Assassin. It looked pretty cool, but they dropped it for some reason that I can't quite remember. Something to do with the AI I think.

Read RTB. They were taken out because the area that they were in was cut and they didn't think they fitted anywhere in the rest of the game, the same with the Antlion King.

Well lets look at Raising the Bar and the promo material. The Combine have weapons taht defeated Earth's best in 7 hours. The Combine crushed earth's military, and then left some of their powerful tech like the striders and gunships as backup. To control the planet, they adapted designs like the copter apc humans into weapons and units because they had natural advantages. Used thsoe units to control.

By the time your in the Citadel, if you noticed, the Combine have a large number of synths moving in to backup the decreasing number of striders. From the looks of it, the combine were launching a counteroffensive.

The fact is the combine modify and take what they need. They've put humans and modified them to be CP's (for local use on earth) and overwatch solidiers (for interstellar deployment), and its obvious that the combine have benefits from humans. Mostly because humans small size allows them to use cover and move unnoticed better.

The scanners are biological too. They make puttering noises, make different sounds when wounded and even launch suicide attacks.
