ok people, list all types of pci devices u have, and what u have heard there is out, i want to see what is usefull to me and for all of us

i have

5 slots, 1 SB live!, 1 usb pci slot, 1 3com networkcard,

and thats all i know about pci cards

Currently I don't have anything in my PCI slots. But what can you put in them?

Sound Cards
Networking Cards
Modems
Raid/IDE Controllers
Tester thingies
Older graphic cards
Usb Cards
Firewire Cards
Parallel Cards
Serial Cards
Gameport Cards

That's all I can think of but basically anything that isn't AGP, ISA or AMR you can put in a PCI slot.

Edit: You can put TV Tuner cards in them too.

I use one of my PCI slots.
My SB Audigy is in it..

other than that, I have 2 PCI slot fans, but that isn't technically IN my PCI slot :)

im begining to think, having 5 pci slots is like haveing a DVD player on a computer.

just wortless. they have usb mobos, and yet they still make usb pci slots.

WTF!!!!! ARH!!!!!!! see my point, worthless

P.S. if anyone replys with a 56k in thier PCI is going to get flammed lol, i can see it coming. some n00b is goona get it.

10/100 Network card.
SB Live! Value.
PCI fan (not really on a PCI slot but anyways taking the space).
Also I had TV-card, not anymore though.

I have all the holes filled on the back, but most arn't plugged into my PCI slots. I only have my Audigy 2 and a backup NIC card. But i have a fan(right under my graphics card to cool it) and two mother board accesseries.

DVD drives aren't useless. Alot of people I know watch movies on their computers, it's preferance really. Most prefer the TV, but there are people who enjoy watching movies at the comfort of their PCs.

Plus, once games start rolling out on DVD format as well as CDs, I'm sure people will be glad they have DVD drives. I can't stand inserting CD 45 during an install, so tedious

Soundblaster Live Player 5.1(partially broken female jack[that green thing you stick your headset into])
hmm.. that's it. I have an old tvtuner but it's just some crappy quality.
A dvd drive is very nice when you(or in this case I) use a projector to watch movies.

I don't have any PCI expantion cards installed. ;)

definately a dvd player is useful! especially with my SB Audigy 2 platinum in the the PCI slot ;) 6.1 sound yipppeeeee! tv out on my videocard. its awesome having a tv that uses DVI input.

Shit, I'd love to have one.
Yet I don't have money for that.

hats off to asus for having no pci's.

but that means, he is using onboard. ahahah hes straining his CPU hahahaha. jk didnt mean to laugh

but on other hand, i dont know jack about video in or output and stuff, i have no idea what half the wholes on my video card are for. i know they are usefull, but i dont konw how to use em, *dissapointed*

yes u can either go ahead and laugh, or give me explanations with examples for what they are for.

Well, my onboard sound uses 3% cpu usage and is digital 5.1. ;)
2 onboard NICs...3com and Nvidia's
9800pro 128mb...no PCI or onboard video there.

i think onboard uses less cpu usage than pci slots. running extensive programs for your sound card or video card sometimes uses cpu up.
but i guess it doesnt slow it down much if either way.

"extensive programs" for your sound card or video card? I have no background programs running for my sound card or video card.

A PCI sound card is less taxing on the CPU than onboard

Prime95 is less taxing on the CPU than a hammer.

im saying some cards have programs that always run. some ATI's and creative sound cards have background programs running. epecially with EAX enabled.

Yea that's true, the overhead on some cards does take more CPU usage then actually running onboard sound would. Personally I just turn those programs off, the sound sounds the same either way.

Oh yean and Asus, what kind of board are you running, it sounds pretty sweet. I'm gonna guess an AMD Lanparty board?

Hes using the A7N8X deluxe.

He has soundstorm. I have it on my NF7-S but never really tested it since I only have a 2.1 speaker set-up on that.

I hear nVidia will be releasing a stand-alone soundstorm card. Too bad Im not waiting until its here. I would have gotten it if it was out, but Im getting an Audigy 2 ZS w/ logitech Z680s for my P4 rig.
