I'd like to second burnzie...no-one in Australia uses 'pop' or 'soda' (unless they're going to ask for a soda water). Fizzy drink also works here as well.

pop is for old people. maybe back in the forties it was called pop, but now one should only call soda "pop" when he/she is trying to annoy someone or act old/weird.

i only ever say the name if there are multiple kinds and i want a particular one, otherwise i just say "grab me a soda".

my grandpa said pop. hes dead now. moral = dont say pop, it makes you old. he was a great guy, but he said pop.

Pop, always pop. I can't stand it when people call it 'soda', or 'soda-pop'. I really don't know why, it just bugs me. I have to say I've never heard it called a 'fizzy drink'. However, 'fizzy drink' does make more sense than 'soda'. It conveys the essence of the drink, although it lacks the overall finesse and simplicity of 'pop'.

used to call it pop when i lived in oklahoma.. went to school on the east coast, and have been out east-ish ever since, so now i call it soda without even thinking usually.
