I imagine people here know who I am talking about, since I recently saw a link to his website in one of the forums, but in case I imagine incorrectly, maddox is the individual who runs "the best page in the universe" website, which reportedly has millions of hits per month.

It is not his crazy articles that amuse me, but his obsession with whinnying about the most menial things, and people's obsession with reading those articles. With so much traffic going to his website, I can see where the encouragement comes from, but from a psychological stand point, what can be said about that guy?

He is one of those persons who, for example, if you send him an e-mail criticizing his attitude, he will first devote two or three paragraphs of his response to criticize your typos, grammatical errors and so on, then he will mock your screen name, all the while calling you some stupid nickname he gave you, and never really addressing the point in question.

I don't know if there is a word to describe that type of person, but on a more objective note, perhaps his attitude is completely rational, since only an idiot would ever bother going to his website, reading his articles, and then getting so offended to the extend that he or she ends up writing him a piece of hate mail. I guess this is one way to look at it, or maybe I subconsciously just want him admit that despite knowing how to write and entertain an audience, he has a clear psychiatric disorder. I am also aware, however, that that is asking too much from an egocentric bastard ;)

It really is the best page in the universe.

I laughed for ages when I read that thing about kids drawings.

Its just funny, don't need to care about the other shit, just read it.

Maddox is harmless.

He just has a nack for nitpicking things that few ever think about. And that's what makes him interesting.

He's funny sometimes, too damn negative in my opinion but I suppose you shouldn't take his ramblings that seriously.

I'll kick your confederate ass.

btw Maddox is a goldmine of entertainment. Sure he seems a little rude or egotistic but that's his STYLE. It would be boring if he just wrote non-themed complaints and rants and stuff.

i find him funny but i can't understand the cult following he has...it annoys me how someone called him influential on here ....theres art, literature, thought provoking film, poetry and you choose some guy who wants to be a pirate that has an ego the size of america and writes shit about shit that doesn't matter and call him influential?

baffles my mind

still he is funny though but influential he isn't

You couldn't kick a god damn thing.

Anyways never take maddox seriously...most of it is jokes and so on.

He's funny as hell, I don't agree with him on 90% of the isuess, infact if he knew me he would probably hate me to.

QFE, exactly, did oyu know people even write hatemail to the official ninja page, now that is completly harmless, the guy doesn't even write offensing articles, just lets his imagination run wild when it comes to ninjas, and he still gets hatemail from dipshits.

Ultimately it's a joke site, but I'm 100% sure he believes what he's saying, apart from the obvious jokes such as causing people physical harm by kicking them in the face.

He doesn't just make up what he says to annoy people, it's what he actually thinks but exaggerated.

I think he's funny. His brutal sense of humor is great.

like others have said, i wouldn't take him very seriously and just appreciate his l337 writing skilLs for what they are ;)

he could have aspergers syndrome: basically it's like autism for the very intelligent

symptoms are social ineptness almost to the point of mania, social awkwardness, inability to meet people's eyes, but highly intelligent ...the internet would be a great escape for someone like him without having to actually socialize with people

HAHAHA! Excellent expression. True for so many...including certain e-toughs (ahem) :p

IMHO, Maddox is trying a little too hard. He has tried to make flaming people a career, and it just stops being funny after a while. Yes, his children's drawings criticisms were indeed awesome, I'll admit. But we already have enough George Carlins and Dennis Learies to fill the "angry observant guy in a world of stupids" niche.

Also if he doesn't have a computer to manicure a well-crafted response in his own time, he doesn't have much else. I saw an appearance of his on TechTV once, and he just read stuff word-for-word from his site from his webcam.

And George Carlin and Dennis Leary are just making it up as they go along? I don't think so. If you watch some Bill Hicks shows, he practically re-uses material word for word. They test out their material in smaller clubs first also to see what's funny and if aynthing should be changed before they have to go on something like Letterman.

But anyway, that's not the point...

Maddox seems to make a decent salary doing his day job, so I doubt he "wouldn't have much else". I think I remember reading in some of his writings that he has a girlfriend too.

Yeah he could well be, have you read the book ' The curious incident of the dog in the night-time' by Mark Haddon' about Chrisopter Boone who is a kid with aspergers syndrome, its really interesting to see how their minds work. Sometimes he thinks things i have done, and i've frightened myself i may have the syndrome partially (likely i don't though :))

Aside from that, i love Maddox, makes me laugh at his serious articles written in jest almost. Great entertainment. If you disagree with me...your wrong :p

Maddox just writes articles for humor, and no one should ever take what he says seriously. He does write serious articles (Such as the various movie reviews, but that's a diferent story) His writing is all in good fun.

Oh, I'm not offended by Maddox. I just wish his articles were funny.

CPtStern did you study psychology? :)

I read about that syndrome you mentioned, and according to wikipedia:

Often the intense focus and tendency to work things out logically, a characteristic of Asperger's, will grant them a high level of ability in their field of interest. Despite their difficulty with social interaction, many people with Asperger's possess a rare gift for humor (especially puns, wordplay, doggerel, satire), and writing. In fact, sometimes their fluency with language is such that a number of them also qualify as hyperlexic.

yeah, that seems to describe someone we know.

Hes.... a waffle..

Buy the way... i've got a new avatar.. ;)

maddox threads = b7 see you in KC

edit: er.. thought I was on genmay for a second, I'll think up a real reply later.

His stuff where he makes fun of people, good shit, but when he just starts bitching about network TV and music....boring

I was listening to Alan Colmes' radio show the other night because it's the only thing on between Phil Hendrie and Tom Leykis. Colmes was out for the evening, so a guest host was conducting an interview with the lawyer filing a class action law suit against WalMart--the world's largest retailer--alleging that WalMart cheated thousands of immigrant janitors out of wages. The host argued that the janitors didn't deserve to get paid the same wage as Americans because they were illegal immigrants and shouldn't have been in America in the first place.

My bullshit detector went off, so I called into the show to slam him in the face with the sledge hammer of fallacy. The conversation went something like this:

Host "Hello, you're on the air."
Me "Yes, I'm calling to side with the lawyer."
Host "Why?"
Me "Because saying that an illegal immigrant doesn't deserve to be paid the same wages as an American because he doesn't belong here in the first place is like saying that a person trapped in a well shouldn't be saved because he shouldn't have been playing around the well in the first place."
Host (pause)
"Yeah... that's a good point."

He then hung up on me and proceeded to repeat his argument verbatim, even though I handed him a plate full of his ass with all the trimmings, only this time he added something to the effect of "well these immigrants are coming to America and taking jobs away from Americans." What?

News flash: immigrants aren't taking anything from Americans. Companies like WalMart are giving jobs to them illegally. If WalMart paid a company to hire immigrants to do the job over Americans then there's probably a good reason for it. I'm sick and tired of lazy gluttonous Americans bitching about immigrants "taking" our jobs. It's not like they can literally come to America, ambush us in the parking lot and take our jobs.
