I personally think the RC is going to be delayed what do you think?

I've modified the poll options a little.

It definitely won't be option 3, 4 or 5. The RC is purely a version of the game that Valve would be happy to release, but it then has to be sent to Vivendi to undergo vigorous testing to ensure there are no further bugs. If there is something in there that Vivendi think needs to be fixed, then Valve will have to prepare another RC and Vivendi will go through their testing again.

Because of this, technically, the RC1 version won't be releasable to us as even that may not be finish, which compltely rules out option 3) and 4) and option 5) is ruled out because the final pre-load is likely going to be the core system files (such as the client.dll that may have changed to fix crashes etc.). The final preload won't be until the game has gone gold - same for the other two options.

Read the actual quote. It says BY September 15th.

I don't understand why people think ON.

why is there no "another preload" option
or for that matter, a "nothing" option.
why is the 15th such a big date?

I don't know really, :S

I hop something big will happen on that day

Why would something significant happen on the 15th?

If Vivendi is done with the RC on the 15th, I think they will aprove it and HL2 will go gold. I don't think Valve needs to make another master disc, I really dont :)

If Valve insititue their 48 hour dustoff period for this game, the gold copy may be finished on Monday...BUT the CS:S beta is clearly still running which means the game can't and won't go gold.

Another wrong date from young Douglas it would seem!

They can't announce a date until it's been tested. So that's impossible.

They can't unlock the game on steam before Half-Life 2 hits the retailers. So that's not happening.

A final preload is possible, however I do believe VALVe will do it once the game one week away, which will most certainly not be on the 15:th.

The two first options are the most likely. Either it's delayed, or it's delivered, just as said by (All our loved) Doug.

What the hell is vigorous testing? Do they shake the computer while they are playing? Do pushups at the same time?
:p

Are we entirely sure they won't just let the Beta run? A lot of people with more money than sense (me) bought CZ in order to get a look at the physics and source engine. I can't see what they'd have to gain by ending the beta rather than just letting it continue....

i dont think they will end the beta, they didnt 'end' the cs 1.6 or steam beta's, so they'll just patch/update the css beta when it gets released as a full on game.

Sept 15th: announcement
Sept 17th: Pre-Load 4
Sept 24th: Last Pre-Load
Oct 5th: Released by steam and retail

RC submitted to Vivendi. I don't think they can announce the release date on the 15th yet. Maybe a couple days later.

The RC will be submitted to vivendi on the 15th. Within 48 hours, Vivendi will approve of it and Valve announces the true release date will be September 30th.
