What does Next gen mean to you?

Well for consoles, next-gen means achieving a new height in power and innovation.

For PCs, next-gen means to test-bed and to prototype for consoles.

*squints at video*

Stupid crappy dark monitor... still seemed pretty amazing though.

So will Alan Wake only be playable on quad-core? Or will you just have to tone that stuff down... or is that just in-engine stuff that it's capable of, but won't actually be in the game?

Also noticed it's coming to 360 aswell as PC, wasn't that quad-core or something like aswell (quad-threaded possibly...)? So could we expect something comparable on there, or would it be toned down aswell?

Alan Wake will run on a one core system. Although if you had 4 cores the game would look a ton better and have a ton better physics and etc..

The Xbox 360 has 3 cores with 2 threads each. Because you can optimize for a console much easier than the PC(one set of hardware on a console) the Xbox 360 shouldn't have a hard time with the game on highest settings.

Next gen?

Hmmm...

Judging by today's standards...

OMFGSHINY! graphics and shit for plot. Oblivion, anyone?

*sigh* I want more games like Fallout 1... in terms of storytelling, immersion and plot.

I'm with the people that say the term Next-Gen is dumb.

All I feel it means is simply the next line of consoles from N/Sony/MS or hardware to come from various manufacturers.

But like Mikael said, to most it means pretty graphics.

ok for the remainder of this thread everyone substitute "Next gen" for "the next evolutionary step"

too much focus on the phrase not on what it means

Is the DS 'next gen'?

I vote yes.

Hmmm... evolving plots? More immersive worlds? Dynamically generated text for dialogues? Actual working AI, not the piss-poor neutered that Oblivion's Radiant is? Return to true, tabletop inspired role-playing?

Next gen, are new things that could not have been done previously, and or is either a huge leap in something. AI in games would be a good example of the latter, if a game really pulls good AI, that just sets the standard and truly makes a lot of differance I would consider that next gen, even though it probably could have been done on today's devices.

Originality thus for me does not necesarly mean next-gen. But does anyone care?

i think it would be awesome to someday have a first person shooter multiplayer for hundreds of players fighting in a sort of huge war/battle scene.
Uhh ... planetside ... not new!
