As we all know, HL2 was supposed to originally come out in 2003, but due to bugs it was delayed and delayed and delayed.

Naturally a lot of games have come out since then (biggest fps's being FarCry and Doom 3). Now I doubt Valve spend an entire year just fixing bugs and must have also spend time upgrading the game as one year in the game industry makes a huge difference.

Anybody know what features they added that would not have been in HL2 is if would have come out on Sept, 2003,

that is a very good question ... I dont know ... maybe you should email some cool guy over at valve ... peace <3 :farmer: :bounce: :O :cheese: :frog:  :cat: :borg:

I heard they made the game longer, not shure if its true, pluss they added CS:S and HL:S. Both games where not planned on the original release

They finished the game and started the source ports.

They haven't solely been fixing bugs since then. The game just wasn't finished by Sept. 2003.

My impression is that the levels weren't really built much at all by this time last year.

Well whatever Valve has done since sept 2003 it's worth it

They were already doing the source ports. They came with the leak (at least HL and CS).

also, I believe they said they added those magnet mines.

Sure, but I also heard they made the overal game longer then they had planned.

As far as I know, they didn't make the game longer. Somewhere someone from Valve said no game content was changed during the year (in terms of new maps and such). I think it was the PHL Q&A 2.0 but I may be wrong.

Actually, they said no content was changed because of the leak. They may have changed content because they felt it wasn't good enough, but they didn't change anything because just because some people had seen it.

Anyway, I think they haven't made it any longer than it was originally.

Well I thought they rewrote a big part of the Source engine after the leak, and due to that the system requirements went up. That's the only major change I know of.

Yeah, that's why I asked, suddenly the system requirements were a lot higher than before, now why is that: hmmmmm.

Because it's a year later, some people have upgraded their computers by now, VALVe know this, and have correspondingly upped the resolutions of textures and the polycounts of models slightly, perhaps?

I think the question we should be asking is what have they taken OUT? I know for a fact that Dynamic terrain is no longer in there...

I dont think terrain Deformation was ever actually in HL2 itself. It was only seen in a Source demo and they say that modders can enable it.

I don't think much has changed in the plans of Valve for HL2. Sure, things have been updated to compete in the modern games industry as it would be daft to have a year old game released now, but it is still essentially the same old game that would've been released a year ago if Valve's drive was as good as their ambition.
