what game has the best graphics?

metroid prime has some of the best that i've seen, but i really haven't played any newer games hl2 is the newest game i own...

Everyone has a different standard by which to judge the 'best graphics' so this thread is likely going to be another fruitless opinion war.

Crysis has the best I have ever seen though, even though its now a Fiscal 2008 title for EA (that is to say, April for next year or later).

I'm very impressed by Motorstorm, the only thing holding it back is the somewhat unstable framerate. But with the extra given months to development, purely for polishing, they should get it to a stable 30.

Anyway, I'm also impressed with UT2007, Alan Wake, Crysis, Mass Effect... bleh, I can't say which has the best graphics of all, too hard to say.

Half-Life 2 when it comes to character detail, I think it will always top the list in that catagory, however I agree that Alan Wake looks truely outstanding visually and yeah I also agree that Company of Heroes definately has the best water graphics.

Company of Heroes is definently the best non-fps graphics, but FPS is split down a few sections, like HL2 definently holds the best characters, but other games have better texturing, shaders, etc...

Doom3 (poor textures and all, absolutely fantastic things with lighting and shadowing)
FEAR (amazing textures, great light and shadow effects, best particle effects out there)
HL2: Ep One (HDR, excellent artistic design, excellent characters, by far the best facial expressions)

I have to agree about EverQuest 2.

Most people don't know (most due to ignorance via the bandwagon effect with other MMOs) that EQ2 looks amazing and it's been out for two years.

I'll post some screenshots with it all maxed out in a minute or two.
