What game(s) do you hate and why

Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars

This is very much a case of a love/hate relationship. The game its self is wonderful and an absolute joy to play. However, due to some bizzare form of copy protection the game will not run if you have demon tools installed on your PC amoung numerous other similar niggles that prevent it from starting up properly. And so for many, many months my game disk sat there upon the shelf, taunting me.

That doesn't even need any excuse. It's a very niche kind of game.

I very, very, very much dislike the Counter-Strike community.

Me to.

If I may expand on my chosen game, I like the tanks, the tanks are good, unfortunately the infantry gameplay is terrible, a mixture of old game technology and obsession with "realism" has made the game slow and terrible.

Or maybe its just that I prefer games like TF2 and Wolf:ET where "jumping around" and fast paced gameplay is the norm, I seem to enjoy those more and excel.

RO on the otherhand is a chore, for a realistic game the sniper rifles are insanely unrealistic and the MG's are far too accurate.

Most players are stuck with bolt action rifles, not so bad?, you have to fire oafter you have made a shot to reload after every shot.

The ironsights are horrid, and its such a campy game its insane, and you basically spend most of your time when not running to a fight hiding as best you can looking for the other team who are also hiding.

Some of the maps are just horrid and make me question how they can be in a game about realism when they seem to belong to Unreal Tournament.

The graphics are also tired.

The tanks cant handle some "onstacles" which frankly don't deserve the label.

Lastly but not least, more then once I've been aimbotted blatantly, nice to see some players exploiting the one shot kill mechanics and uber accuracy of the weapons (which aren't easy to aim, if you can see anyone sticking out a hair behind some cover from across the map through the fog and smoke grenades.

RO is an argument for why realism beyond all considerations for actual fun and the fact that the ends of the day its still a computer game isn't a good idea.

I hate multiplayer games, too, because I want deep stories. I don't like competition and there are a lot of people that take them too seriously.

I agree with this sentiment as well actually.

I hate all games made by Crytek. If you can even call those things "games". More like overpriced techdemos.

My hate isn't directed any any particular game, but rather at a trend that's becoming more and more common in recent years. I partly blame Sony for the Playstation generation and making games cool (in a wearing sun glasses in the house kind of way), but mainly the marketing types who have no interest other than milking us for money. I call it the 'all mouth and no trousers' or 'Assassin's Creed' trend. Games that have no spark of originality and nothing to justify their existence other than being pretty and looking cool.

Sony? Nintendo.

edit: So long as the Sun-glasses are on a geriatric surfboarder bonding with his BOLD ITALIC UNDERLINE second generation offspring.

How can someone say they hate StarCraft and the reason for it being "Give me some new gameplay". I wonder if he realizes the game came out pretty early in the RTS days...not the first, sure, but it was done the best.

Also, I hate GTA 3 and up. I just can't play it for any sort of length of time without being mind-numbingly bored.

Halo: Do I need any excuse?

Final Fantasy VIII, IX, X, X-2: AAAHH SUCH HORRIBLE GAMES. Give me IV or VII.

Medal of Honor. As if we don't have enough wartime FPS's, let's just add in one that plays shitty.

You do realise you can enter cars, right? :p

My friend back in primary school claimed GTA bored him. Turned out he didn't know you can drive cars. :p

Actually, I remember this being PCZone (UK)'s major criticism of the game. They gave it a pretty average mark (you know, games review 'average'. Somewhere in the high 80s :p) and because I was buying games every time my pocket money reached a certain 4 month threshold of being able to afford new software, I never gave the game a second thought.

"Think of StarCraft as Blizzard's generic mission disk for all your favourite RTS games and you won't be a million miles from the truth."

That's the one.

Red Orchestra was never intended as a mainstream game. I find the infantry combat very addictive and rewarding. And there is a tactical reason for the fact that you have to fire the bolt action rifles again after having fired them. It's a simple matter of being able to use your bayonet right after having fired the weapon. But it may be going a little over the top. And yes, the bolt action rifle is very hard to learn. But I fully understand if you dislike the game.

I would love RO to death... if it wasn't on the UT engine, which I dislike even more than the crashy-buggy-lagfest of an engine the Battlefield series uses. Grargh.

Games I hate?

RPGs, turn based strategy games, adventure games, sports sims (exception racing games), Halo series, tactical FPS (SWAT series, Rainbow6, Raven Shield etc.)

So you hate Advance Wars? Do you also hate HAPPINESS?

Never heard of it. If it's turn based then yes, I hate it by default...

Ironically I like chess.
I feel like you may be missing out on some genuinely good games that you don't enjoy by avoiding so many large categories by default.
I found myself bored after a few matches.
Me: THIS IS OK.
Friend: LOL LETS DO THAT SAME STAGE 100 MOaR TIMES
Me: ugh.

Sounds like a case of doing it wrong.

I avoid them because I know I won't enjoy them.

I'll add another category to the list. "Realistic" fighter simulators where you destroy enemy fighters from hundreds of miles away without even seeing anything... BORING.

The entire Halo series. Overrated, boring, repetative, horrible story, etc.
Crap series.

All the RPG hate shocks and disturbs me... especially the JRPG hate! It's like kicking the dog that's done nothing but love you!

(I'm [re]playing Final Fantasy 8 currently... never managed to completely finish it a long time ago... it's frickin' amazing, man. I've never played any other FF game, but if they're all this good, all the hate just shocks me more! Seriously, those graphics on a Playstation ONE (like everything aside from character models outside cutscenes stands up to modern graphics standards), seamless transitions to and from cutscenes, epic music, likable characters, complex magic/customization system.... what the **** is wrong you guys?!)

Edit: FF8 sucks. You suck.

I ****ing hate WoW with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.

On an unrelated note, I just bought Lich King and re-subbed. LOLs.

All the RPG hate shocks and disturbs me... especially the JRPG hate!

What can I say, I basicaly hate all the standard elements that make up this genre.

-Having to talk to all sorts of random NPCS
-Collecting useless items only to sell them and buy weapons
-The item management screen
-Going on stupid side quests that have nothing to do with the story
-Boring gameplay/combat
-Finding a weapon and realising that you can't use it because you don't have the necessary skill.
-Upgrading your character
-And to top it all of, most RPGs have the medieval fantasy theme, which I hate with a fiery passion.

I'm not arguing that, I like his reviews too.

I hate WOW but only because of hearing talk about it. I've never played the game and I never will based on the amount of crap I have to listen to on a day by day basis. I get it you play it a lot I really don't care.

Games I hate?

RPGs, turn based strategy games, adventure games, sports sims (exception racing games), Halo series, tactical FPS (SWAT series, Rainbow6, Raven Shield etc.)

So you hate S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Civilization?

So you hate S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Civilization?

I haven't tried Civilization but I have played other TBS and I just found it boring and uninteresting...

As for STALKER, the main thing that killed it for me was that it was buggy as hell. Crashes to desktop, graphical bugs (giant extruded polygon from the weapon carried by the character covering 60% of the screen). But even when it worked well I still didn't enjoy it. If there are fixes for the bugs, and mods that would make the game more like Far Cry 2 (which i like) I might enjoy it.

GTA San Andreas. I didn't like getting paid with respect instead of money.

oh hai spoony
Pfft, I was hating on FF8 when Spoony was in diapers. I'm OG FFh8.

(Although unlike Spoony I actually kind of liked the card game.)

Yeah I mostly hate games with lots of management aspects. Anything strategy with the word "economy" on the back of the box, for instance. Civ IV is about my limit, but even that tries my patience.

Dawn of War 2.

My excuse is I already have Company of Heroes and its a better game. Also Between DoW1 and my TT stuff I have already got my 40k hit.
