personally id say that gears of war would make a mans film although the directors would srew it over it could be awsome.

Honsetly, Gears would be really cool if it was made into a movie. I've heard alot of people say the story stinks, but with a good director/writer, could be good.

i wouldn't mind seeing a film based on thief, hell i'd love just another thief game

The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay... or a third Riddick with a story about his time at Butcher Bay.

If another Thief game came out, my life would be complete. With HDR and softshadowing. Ohhhhh yeah.

only if it was done right of course

I think both the dialog and story are great which would go well into a movie

scarface! the Warriors? the godfather? how about Reservior Dogs?

Now we only need Clockwork oragne, Goodfellas, Dog Day Afternoon and Pulp Fiction to be made into games and I'll lose all my faith in the industry...

I think you could do something Metal Gear related, so long as Hideo Kojima directed it. Get someone else to write the dialogue though.

oh come on surely Barbie's Horse Adventures would make a great film ..actually it might not see wide release due to it's unfortunate title ..what idiot thought that one up? arent those types of movies usually shown at "specialty theatres" or behind a curtain in the back of a video store frequented by guys in grey overcoats with mysterious stains on their shoes?

horse adventures indeed!

:O

Deus Ex would make a far better mini-series than it would being compressed into a 2 1/2 hour movie. There's just way to much character and story development to do the game justice through movie constraints. Dividing up the story into seperate movies would be an even bigger mistake than it would be as a feature film.

Max Payne could probably work as a movie, but I have a feeling it would end up too much like The Punisher. ;)

The general problems with trying to make games into movies are the sacrifices necessary to get games that are usually 10+ hours long down to about 2 hours for movie format. Character and story cuts are likely to piss off the the fanbase. You also need to keep in mind those who aren't familiar with the game and whether or not they would want to see the movie.

With these things in mind, lets think of some examples:

Dino Crisis:
Pros
- This would satisfy those who are still waiting for a new Jurassic Park.
- Not a lot of people remember the original game and wouldn't likely view this as a "gamer's" movie.
- Wouldn't have much competition as dinosaur movies are rare.
- Could easily nab a PG-13 rating to appeal to a greater market.
Cons
- Many would just view this as a Jurassic Park rip-off.
- Would likely be packed with one-dimensional characters and cliche moments.
- Dinosaurs would need to be on par or even better looking than those in the JP movies to stand a chance at the box office. If the dinos look bad, this will fail.
- Plot elements may seem too extreme (ficticious).

MechWarrior:
Pros
- Giant robots doing battle should look pretty spectacular.
- The different terrains visited should keep things fresh.
- The references to religion should hoepfully spark some interesting dialogue.
Cons
- In order to look great, the budget for this movie may be too much for studios to consider.
- It's going to be hard to make the characters inside the mechs not sound cheesy.

Grim Fandango
Pros
- Animated, this could be to classic noir films like Casablanca what the Shrek films are to children's tales.
- A PG rating combined with the references might garner interest from more people than those simply taking their kids.
- Could be the next Nightmare Before Christmas.
Cons
- Writing would need to be as great as the game in order to live up to expectations.
- Might be boycotted by "concerned" parents for the themes of death.

Those are my 3 that come to mind at the moment. The stories in all three are small enough to translate to the big screen without much sacrifice and each provide something relatively unique, meaning competition will be reduced. But as I mention above, each isn't without its own problems.

People liked Jurassic Park? :|

I love Jurassic Park, although I can't remember a single scene in it, which is weird because I've seen it 4 or 5 times. I can't really remember much of Lost World or Jurassic Park 3 either, I just remember not really liking either of them.

yeah i guess max payne would be kool, and the warriors, the god father. they are games based on films im on about films based on games.

A metal gear solid film would blow every other out of the water, I mean seriously. There isnt anything that would have to be changed, it`s basically a movie anyway.

Ah well, we can only dream.

Deus Ex would make a good film.

And yes, if Metal Gear Solid was made in the same was as the Final Fantasy Advent Children movie, it could be cool.

Ew, to each his own I guess.

First off, jurassic park owns your face.

Second, I think thief would make an awesome movie. I would die of awesome.

oh, I guess I'm not the only one :O

A Max Payne movie can't possibly be screwed up. Story is all there, it even has a storyboard already (those pictures between levels :p).

There hasn't been one game turned into movie to date that has been at least "good"?

Why don't they make a movie of the game of donkey kong?

Baldurs gate 2 (if done right).
Fallout 1/2
Thief would be awesome, i agree.

So you would like an Entirely incomprehensible 70 minute CG fight sequence with new paper thin characters, fan-serving resurrections of characters that are dead, trite dialogue and tiring action sequences to go? Or will you be laying back and drooling brainlessly inside the restaurant? ^^

I think that film makers should stop trying to make good films out of game licenses. If you strip a game of its gameplay, you're left with a derivative, cliched story with cut-out characters and little of any worth.
