ya hes right,

lol its like valve needs to get off thair fat lazzy asses and quit playing doom3, shit they have their own game to take care of first.

if u do get stuck in an accident, yes u are a lier u said 12 and its 12 your not their, u lied but the question is will i be simpathetic to you for beig in a accidnet, now lets see should ib e simpatehtic to valve for lying on every single date they put out except CSS and that was very questionable too.

that is the bigger question. its not about the preload or the game being released in september why cry for it now, its not about that no one is crying, i turned on my comp and wow its cs ok let me double click it, never was expecting it to be there its hte principle, so yes, if u get stuck in a car accident and upromised to be somewhere at 12, and u didnt make it, you did lie, the truth is the truth.
with that logic, you should not commit to anything because circumstances could prevent you from keeping that commitment and thereby making you a liar. blah, I say it's all right that we don't preload HL2 today.. I thought it was the 27th anyways.

I sincerely hope you're joking. VALVe is working as hard as humanely possible. I am not even sure if you, me, or most of the members of this forum even know what it means to work like that, for as long as VALVe has.

Sleepless nights, lack of time for shaving and personal hygiene, complete detachment from family and the outside world, coding, painting and animating throughout nights and days. Two goals in mind: game must be as good as possible, game must ship soon because millions of fans are waiting. The latter has got to be their main motivation. Do you seriously think that, for example, Gabe is in this business for the money? He has enough money to finance the whole operation for years to come. No, he is there for us. Same for others at VALVe: trying to make it as good as it can, in as little time as it can take.

No siree, if anyone is sitting on their lazy ass, in comparison to VALVe, that would probably be you and the rest of us.

If it doesn't start tonight, there's probably a very good reason. Obviously no one has preloaded yet, and anybody who says he has is a dirty Republican who crosses the street to piss on homeless people. (That is, a Bad Man.)

Sometimes things come up in scheduling, last-minute problems, etc. You might want to consider cutting them a little slack.

Dirty Republican? another 206'er for the "Democrats Utopia"

Here's a snippet from 106th Congress Oct 5,2000 340 days before 9/11.I wonder how idealistic liberals will feel when about 50 nukes go off on US soil.

``We all remember the administration's efforts from 1998 to 1999 to
prevent the Senate from approving the Iran Nonproliferation Act.
Various officials assured Senators, time and again, that Russia had
`turned the corner', or that President Yeltsin had issued a critical
directive, or that the Duma would soon consider changes to export laws
to solve the proliferation problem.
``But--looking back over the past eight years--the truth of the
matter is that this administration has not solved the proliferation
problem. The problem has grown decidedly worse, and because of that the
world is a far more dangerous place.
``The next administration will inherit a diplomatic situation
chock-full of broken promises, and a commercial situation where Russian
companies are profiting not only from multi-billion dollar trade with
the U.S., but are doing a healthy business with the Iranians on the
side.

Or....

They are working 9 till 5, 5 days a week like the rest of us. What makes you think these guys are working nights and weekends and sacrificing hygiene and family for work? You just pulled that entire post out of your moron ass.

Dude, don't flame him. I'm sure valve is working really hard at getting this thing out in as best shape as it can be.

Maybe we should stop discussing the "pre-load" altogether 'till it's out, I mean it's becoming like the "release date threads". But on the other hand we have nothing else to discuss :|

Yeah but come on. If they are working they are getting (or will get) compensated for their time. I C&A systems for the Marine Corps. I work my 9 to 5 maybe more maybe less but the job gets done. Im sure there are "all nighters" once in awhile but its not as bad (i assume) as portrayed.

What makes me think that is the fact that I have worked on project of the scale of HL2, and have developed games in the past.

Also, if you ever bothered to read the article about "The Making of Half-Life" (here: Final Hours of Half-Life ), you will know that the last month or two are really demanding. No matter how much planning you do or how much discipline you have, if you are striving for perfection, sacrifices will inevitably have to be made, because there's always room for improvment. And you always find out there's about a 50% of the project remaining at about 10% of the time left until the deadline :)

The only projects that are developed 9-5 are ones that either have no deadlines, or ones made by people which don't really care about the project and receive a steady salary irrespective of performance. How disciplined you are really doesn't matter, because you cannot schedule creativity, or really control perfectionism. I mean, obviously, VALVe's bar of "good enough" is way, way over the head of other companies.

So yeah, I have good reasons for that post. What I don't have is a good reason to perpetuate your personal insults.

No offense but most game develoeprs work 12-16 hour days during the whole dveelopment cycle and during certain crunnch periods u can do 24 hour shifts with sleeping with your head on your desk, on the floor etc.

Learn a bit about the game biz before you say stuff.

there is no such thing as overtime in the game industry

It's almost relaxing to say it.

Who knows about pre-loading? I don't.
