I would like to know what has happened to this forum, I visit here frequently, and post every so often, i would like to get into more discussion, but im affraid i'll be attack by the forum nazis/whores who flame everybody. People make mistakes, and sometimes people over look stuff, and when someone ends up posting in the wrong forum, or asking a question that has already been asked they get raped by like 20 jerks. Why can't people just get over it? Be helpfull not harmfull, and this type of thing will probably happen less and less...
Also another thing im freakin' sick of are these hl2 vs. stalker vs. doom 3 vs. far cry vs deus x 2 vs. blah blah barbies horse adventure! This is a half life 2 board, lets talk about half life.. If i wanted to hear how great stalker was i would go to their forums and their website....(although hl2 doesn't hold a candle to barbie horse adventure, i hear the sdk blows source away :) ) but come on guys, just chill out! I thnk this whole media frenzy has got everyone steamed (no pun intended) but just go with the flow :)

yes, most of us old timers....

/me waggles his walking stick at the young ones....

tend to stay away from general discussion, and i try to clamp down on any flaming in the modelling and skinning sections, as that is the place i lurk...oh and here, although all i can do is ask them to stop, as me not a mod ;(

/me wanders off waggling his walking stick somemore and talking randomly about how it's not like the old days...
 
General discussion is....generally.... a no go zone for anyone who would like to have a conversation consisting more of "Shut up you!!!1 WTF!!!1!!!! OMG!!!!!"


Back in my day we didnt flame people. We burnt them....on a steak. Mind you it was a waste of good meat....the steak that is. Yeah, we used mince them all up together and cook them over an open fire. We lived in a shoebox underneath a leaking, polluted bridge. There was no internet, and we didnt "flame" anyone. Neither did we burn them or anything to do with fire. In my day we had proper communitys. Not these "forums"......

yeah i know... up hill both ways :) by the way since this is off topic and i didn't expect any serious discussion i guess i can ask without being burnt at the steak mmmmm steak, but where did my signature go?
 
What do you mean where did it go? I cant see it on your last post...but that doesnt matter. Its there on the first one. Although ive noticed that people sometimes have sigs and sometimes dont. Its weird really. i dont know what it is that does it.
 
If you use the quick reply you don't get your sig on it...you have to use the REPLY button to reply to get your sig :cheese: ....

I agree, all the flameing and b*$#@ing needs to go. I mean it's everywhere except here..........YET. I fear it looms on the borders though.
 
Hmm not too many other "May" people except me brave the General Discussion forum. For good reason too probably. :)

But seriosuly the amount of assholes in this world does amaze me. For instance: when Apos started the Vavle info thread all people could do was spam in it when he clearly asked them NOT to post pointless bollocks - and whadda they do?

And the Doom 3 and Half-life 2 pros and cons thread went down the exact same road, granted I may have psoted a few pictures from my playing expirience and didnt disscus anything about the pros and conns, but the amount of flaming and bollocks that went on in that thread was just silly.
 
What do you expect from popular website? It attracts many different types of people, assholes, trolls, etc. But, I am too sick of people that flame Valve, like there is no tomorrow. I don’t even know why that type of people come to these forums. And mods don’t help either :\ . I mean, I would lock half of topics there. Like HL porn and Con\Pros of Doom III, etc.
 
It's ironic but the only place to have an ON-topic conversation anymore is in the OFF-topic area.

ah so true... I guess we should garrison this forum, lock all the doors, and grab our shotguns cuz i can see them... the tops of there heads loom on the horizon..... we must... never...let go..

I'm a relatively new user, but i come to these boards every day and when i first joined, before all the media mumbo jumbo this place was really cool... oh well hope it goes back that was soon or we may have to unleash the troops

As ive said in another post in another thread. Its a good thing we have general discussion. Otherwise they would probably come onto offopic. So even though that board has become dead to us, we should keep it just to keep them contained.

Lucky them. I wont be playing the game until October 25th so il just be sat here in the forum. Crouched in a corner rocking backward and forward hoping the n00bs don't find me while I'm all alone, for fear of getting infected by them.
 
Ill stay here once HL2 is released, I won't become innactive. Ill probably be here all the way until the day that Half Life 3 is old and no longer popular.

Saddly it seems very true for the moment. I hope that it will change once this media craze has died down. We need more moderators, that would definatly help to stop the spamming and the insults that now plague the general discussion forum.

Sorry, old timer? You registered last month, lol.. Unless of course, you were talking about actual age, in which case you are being extremely stereo-typical and mean. :E
 
hey hey it dun' matter if you're old or not..
I was one of the very few who first registered here and had like 3 discussions a-day instead of the 20 every time you refresh the site. be polite and try posting stuff at the right forum.
 
God I hate General Discussion : "How old is Gman" "HL2 Pr0n". I saw those thread titles, and ran. I have never really been flamed, except by some people (Fisheye) who thought I was a spammer, I apologised to avoid further confrontation and he never replied :p. Anyway, yeah I've seen loads of childishness in General Discussion... people calling others homos and gays... and the list goes on, I'm sure I've even seen leet used in a non-ironic/sarcastic manner :(

I may of only registered last month, But there are only a few people who don't know me (I.E. the Kiddies on the General Discussion Board)...

Hmm, After my hip replaced I feel much younger. I do goto the General Discussion only to yelled at, cussed at, and told to do things that no one should ever do!.

Whoa, I am one with the old guys... Only I lurked here for about a month.

I say that Off-Topic should become a hidden forum like some others. Only the worthy oldbies and new people that have proven to give a serious answer to disscusions will be accepted to post in the forum. But the work involed would be large, I think.

It is kinda strange that all the idiots are confined mostly to the General forum. Don't you?

I think it's because they just post in the first area everyone reads or because they think general discussion means that anything can be discussed there. No idea
 
Wow, I registered in May and I mainly only visit the Off Topic bit these days, I guess that makes me one of the old ones, although I haven't posted that much, just pointless comments here and there.

Il still be here because il have stuff all else to do when Hl2 comes out.

You guys really need help. All this talk of hip replacements, breaking ribs and cheese is get.....oh was it? Oh ive just been told the cheese was in the pizza thread but anyway. All this old talk will only let the nubs get in. They are already scraping at the walls and some threads have appeared which arent very interesting.
 
Ya their hasn't been all that many threads that have been all that interesting for a little while (there has been some though). I guess its because most of the interesting threads before were about the story, and nothing new on the story has come to light for a long time. Also because alot of the good threads have already been taken.
 
lol flamers are cool cos then i can take the piss hehehe. Can vaccum cleaners get old? owell lol. I think its great that we can have a laugh out of nothing in the off topic forums. but i enjoy teasing noobs in the general forums now and then:p:p
