What have games done for you?

Deus Ex got me intrested in poetry.

Got me intrested in the Illuminati, which in turn got me intrested into the Free Masons, which has gotten me intrested a bunch of other conspiracies. Which turned me into an agent, which got my family killed, which made me turn into a poet.

It's given me a total love for the industry and a lifelong career goal... also, it's made me think faster, be more original (coming up with game ideas and game design), given me a love of atmosphere and also a good sense of it, so I know how to create a good atmosphere, not to mention making my reflexes fast.

It has made me a tad paranoid though :|

they do nothing at all, except make you a nerd!!!!! get away from them!!!!! now!!!!!

Got me addicted to conspiracies, and started me on writing my own book about the Illuminati.

bahahahahah!

yep, conspiracy theories are the shit.

Hmm... I'm in it for the community. And the killing. Mostly the killing.

Faster reflexes

annndd....

absolutely no clever conversation topic ideas with women :P

It's helped me to make a decision and then *do it* - something a lot of my friends could certainly use sometimes ;/ (Should I ask her out, what if she laughs at me, etc. etc. I don't have a gf, but then I'm ugly, so meh :) )

It also helped convince me to go into computer science, which I certainly wouldn't have done before with all the "exciting" profs and fellow students in the program at my school. Why is it all the nuts and crazies and wierdos show up in CS?

- Extended volcabulary
- Confidence (Oddly, I now don't care about my stuttering that I do :))
- Solved an identidy crisis (That's right, I used to listen to rap and talk like them... Thank god it's over)

Cons

- Laziness
- I am now confused to be a nerd instead of a geek :dork:
- Shortened attention span
- Reduced imagination, although I r teh win at describing stuff, my creativity has been slightly reduced.

Pros

- Extended volcabulary
- Made me join this forum

Cons

- Phobia of monsters.
- phobia of grey suit wearing and breifcase holding people.
- Made me join this forum

-Improved reflexes.
-Started my interest in programming.
-Started my interest with science in general.
-Made me very interested in ancient civilizations such as the Greeks, Romans, and Celts.
-Actually gave me motivation to become fit (You have any idea how fit Gordon Freeman must be?)
-Extended vocabulary
-Sparked my desire to create fantasy and science fiction worlds and stories for my own personal interest. I am even thinking of writting a couple novels sometime in my life.
-Broadened my musical interests
-Improved my strategic thinking in real life situations
-Calms my nerves in times of high stress

Thats just my list so far. If I think long enough I could probably double its length at least.

Distracted me from a very bad life and gave me an escape where the only escape was escapism. Distracted me from serious depression.

Games have given me a job :)

Is it a high paying job? I am interested in a career involved with computers/game programming.

- Inhuman Reflexes (seriously) :|

Salaries vary wildly across the industry. You make far more as a commercial programmer than in games.

Its interesting how everyone says that video games gave them faster reflexes...the only thing that could possibly have faster reflexes are my fingers.
*looks down at hands*

Your brain can perceive what is happening much faster as well. Having to quickly spot and know what to do when you see an enemy in Counter-Strike will certainly improve your brains general reaction time.

Yeah I guess thats true. :D

Dont think its done anything really. Which sucks as it means I've wasted so much time and gained nothing.
