There is no doubt that HL2 will be leaked 7-2 days before the release on a filesharing community.
Just like Sims 2, Doom 3 et al

My guess is that it will be crackable just like any other game.Bait said:In the unlikely event that a group does get their hands on HL2, it won't do anyone any good. Any idiot who tries to get HL2 to work with Steam before the official release will get in a whole crap-load of trouble. I'm imagining after all this time that HL2 is going to have some kind of kick ass security protection, along with Steam as well.
I just hope it doesn't screw over ligit users though.......
i agree, even if its a little buggy, i wouldn't mind a patch or 2 or 3 or 4...john121 said:honestly, this piece of news about the whole legal battle has gotten me pretty ticked. Here Valve tells us to wait till what, september, then november.. now 6 months? Why doesn't Valve hurry up the process by just releasing it on Steam, thereby practically forcing a publisher to release it? This is like if scientists who were creating the nuclear bomb said, "yes, we have the bomb all put together.. we're just waiting for the air force to give us a plane" and the air force to say, "we're not giving you a plane because you will be remembered for creating the bomb, we'll only be remembered for carrying it, so we'll make you wait 2 years before you can drop it". It makes no sense and both companies are hurting themselves, and the people who helped them catch the hackers who started this delay. Give us some slack, release it through Steam for those who can get it.
:dozey: I have a lot of respect for VALVe. I do think it would be better if the alpha was never was released. But since it was released, I dont see how me downloading it to see how it runs and check out the physics hurts them. Its the release of the source code that was bad for VALVe,. not the compiled code.Eon Blue said:[edit] But I did not and will not touch the HL2 cracked E3 files, nor will I get it illegally. I have too much respect.
i plan on buying it through steam. i also wanted to add that Valve has already licensed the source engine to 2 different companies and that right there is money in Valves pocket. with that, i hope they make HL2 reasonbly priced, not the $80.00 i saw on the net.[Dragoon] said:1. If HL2 were pirated, it wouldn't have any major effect on sales.
2. If Vivindi decides to sit on HL2 for 6 months, I say we grab our torches and pitchforks and have us a lynch mob! Tickets to France are your problem.

I traveled to South America many times, and I lived there for half a year. When I was there in June, the tarriffs on most imports were up to 10% ( in addition to sales tax which was usually included in the price depending on the product).
So it's an extra US$5 (assuming it's not the bare bones, nor the CE version) and some change. Not too bad, right?
However, the wage differences between the first and third world nations are vast (I know... DUH!?). I didn't realize how vast until my uncle in S.A. told me how much he makes a month. He is the head of the Ministry of Transportation. He lives in a bigger place than I do, and fully supports his family. They are considered to be upper middle-class.
At the same time I worked part-time (M-F 35hrs/week) at a child care, where all I did was play video games and handball and I made nearly TWICE as much as does.
My point is that it's ludicrous to spend the same amount of money on a game as one would for a mortgage payment. Even though I strongly encourage people to purchase original copies of games, I can't blame you for buying pirated versions.
