What if Alyx wasnt in Episode 3?

Ive just been looking around some forums and I saw something interesting. ;)

Another question(s) if I may.

Heya Merle,

I could beat around the bush and write a long drawn out post, but I'll get right too it huh? ;)

Question 1 : Have you started recording Alyx's character voice for half life 2 : episode three yet?

Question 2 : I know your bound by an NDA, but if you could rate the upcoming half life 2 : episode three out of 10 what would you give it? (Obviously just from what you have heard/seen.)


I think what Im trying to get at is.. I love half life 2 I love the fact it drags you in to the game and makes you feel like your part of the story. Im eager for the third installment and i want to know what the buzz is all about. (is it really going to be "that" good?) :D

Does that mean she's not been approched for voice acting as Alyx in episode 3? Or does it mean they are a long time from completing it?
 
It would make the game a hell of a lot better, IMO. I personally can't stand her, she irritates the hell out of me, the way she talks to you dead soppily. I would be very pleased if she didn't appear in the next game. My thoughts would be something along the lines of "thank God for that!!".
Edit: I didn't read the report, I just went by my personal feelings.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Valve haven't finished the script yet.
 
Well my guess is that they are just not at that stage yet, I mean they would have been working mainly on Left4Dead so until thats released there wont be any major work on it I doubt. If she is left out then so be it but I doubt it considering Eli's death would have a very interesting effect on her character that Valve could exploit.
 
She's probably not allowed to talk about it. Even if you hated Alyx, it would be retarded not to have her in it SOME.

err, valve isnt working on left 4 dead
 
Alyx will defiantly be in Episode 3, Valve did not invested all this time in getting players to like her, to just ditch her. Also the ending of Episode 2, pretty much guarantees she'll be in Episode 3, she must get revenge for the death of Eli. I would say there still a long way from completing it, if i remember Valves development cycle. Valve works on the level,s then integrates the story around it. So until they have the basics of the game, they won't do the voice acting.

Perhaps they could have a section where you can choose whether or not Alyx fights alongside you. Not sure how they'd implement it but at least it would give the player a bit of choice.
 
How, Gordon cant communicate in anyway.
 
That's what'd make it difficult. The only way I can imagine it working is if there are two paths to an objective and Alyx always takes a particular one, but you can choose between them and not affect the final outcome.

the HL series isn't about choices. it's very linear.
 
True, but surely a minor choice for a small portion of the game could fit in? It's not as though the outcome of the whole game would be changed, merely a short section of combat.

The game already has short areas of combat where you're alone. I find it's already quite well balanced. Not to much Alyx yet not to much being alone. Although i know some people would like to be alone throughout the game. i don't see why people dislike Alyx for me she is the only NPC that i like to have around, she kinda brightens up the game.
 
Personally, I like having her as a companion, and I'd much rather fight with her than alone. I don't know the percentage of players who like her though.
 
She'll be back. It would make absolutely no sense to exploit the character that Valve has been developing for so long. It took Merle about 16 hours to do all the work for Episode One, so it's not like it's a long, drawn-out process. The script probably hasn't been finished yet, and there's no sense to have her record when it's not complete.

People who say they hate Alyx have a secret ****ing crush on her.
 
Theres no way that Alex wouldnt be in the game. She and Gordon are supposed to go TOGETHER to the Borallis. If she wasn't I seriously wouldnt play the game.
 
If alyx isent in episode three, well acually she better be in their for like a few minutes but only for a realy cool looking death or something. Not that i dont "lurves" alyx (as stated by Druckles), but if she isnt in it, then i want to atleast to se her die in a cool way :naughty:

Absolutely agree!!! Also in hl2 in the last chapter in the lift, the way she talks to you there is just so soppy it makes me want to puke!!!! It also makes me wish I still had my shotgun at that point so I could blast her with it!!!

Alyx will be in Episode 3. She either can't talk about it, or she hasnt recorded any lines or been told anything yet...
 
i heard someware that she appeares at the beggining but is to traumatized by eli's death to follow gordon on the rest of the Quest.

To me she is how companion/support characters should be done. She's not naggy (OK maybe occasionally but the occasions are very few). Her voicework is always impeccable and the animation that goes with it is second to none.

In combat she can take care of herself, I've never ever had to babysit her (think of how many games where babysitting suicidal NPCs is an issue). I really liked fighting with her in EP1 when she got more animations for dealing with enemies in close quarters it really made her feel more real and alive. Not only that but she actually HELPS you in combat but it never feels like she's doing too much.

Finally, she moves within the environment perfectly. She jumps in your car quickly and very fluidly (I don't have to keep still long for her to jump in) and can jump, lift and vault her way around the map.

You can't make a character that has been designed to do these things so well and then cut her completely from the story. I really hope she is there for a significant part of EP3 as after the events of Ep2 she has become the most important character in the story - barring Gordon of course.
 
I reckon she'll be in the first few minutes of the game and at the last few minutes, but she won't be in the game entirely. Besides I want Barney and Animal Mother (Adam Baldwin's generic rebel) by my side for this duration
 
I love Alyx but I would be thrilled by another solo experience HL1-style. Anyway, a Half-Life 2 episode without Alyx is unlikely, in my opinion.

If Alyx is a hinderance, then my name is Captain King. Anyways, yeah, I don't think she's been allowed to talk about it, everything so secret going at Valveland.
