Here's an interesting read by the people over at GotLag?

What if Counterstrike never came about?

It's hard to say. Counterstrike is THE most popular Half-Life mod to date, and is responsible for a significant portion of Half-Life's mod community (many copycat mods and others have been inspired by its success) and Half-Life's longetivity (playability over time).

I personally think that if Counterstrike and other über-popular mods like Day of Defeat, Firearms, and Team Fortress Classic were not created the Half-Life mod community would not have developed to the point it has reached today. And Valve would not be loaded enough to pull of something like Half-Life 2.

If CS didn't exist there would be far more 8-year-olds hanging round shopping centres shouting things like "OMG PWNage" and "haXXor" at passers by.

hehe...unfortunatley its true....CS and other mods made HL the legend it is today.

If only EA and dice would learn that.

Bf42 will be close to dead in another year if they dont release an SDK...but they dont care as long as they make money.

Why release the SDK when you can release an number of add-on packs and a sequel in no time eh? :/

If they hadnt been made...something else would.

Or its like saying "If Bill Gates hadnt made lots of money, he wouldnt be rich."

This was funny.

What if Gordon Freeman chose to NOT work for the G-Man at the end of Half-Life? Would Half-Life 2 still feature him?

He gets teleported to a room full of paper-thin Alien Grunt “sprites” (2d game objects). After he headbutts them all to death, he finds his way back to Earth. We could tell you how, but then we would have to kill you.

Of course Half-Life 2 would still feature him. He does not die at the end of Half-Life. The real question is “Where does the G-Man go after Half-Life?”

FA2? Is that Firearms? It's the mod with the thousands weapons right? I liked it. But how about Science&Industry2 :)

NATURAL SELECTION 2, yeah baby. That would be awesome, if they had it on planets instead of ships, then you could get into some futuristic buggy and go blastin aliens. Then you could have flying ship and fight against lurks in the air (they would have to make them bigger and stronger). Wouldnt that be kool to be in a buggy with a buddy and an onos would be chasing after you, so your buddy jumps on the back and blasts the crap out of the onos!

YEAH NS2

I didnt enjoy firearms. And omg bring on teh flamage!!!

/me puts on anti-flamatory suit

/me never played Natural selection!!!

natural selection 2 would definitely rock...

and those comments about bf1942 are way too true. why let modders extend the life of an awesome game for free when they can release 2 expansion packs that add in a couple maps and weapons, and then, a year later, make a sequel that could've been done by modders of the original if given the sdk!?

As soon as they release BFV, all official support on BF42 will dissappear. BF42 will have 50 servers, and some mod servers. Its already going down the drain.

personnally, i can't wait till HL2...never mind any MODs....

Im sure it will still get a lot of support, but BFV will be really awesome and I can't wait for it!

I have bought one expansion pack and I regret the day I set foot in the store... should've downloaded DC instead. But I didn't know... ;(

On a cheerier note, I myself am a NS fan: I hang around on the walls or ceilings usually and growl most of the time :)
