Yea i saw them talking about something similar in Popular Science... and also the skin tight, body suit which is supposed to take body heat and turn it into energy. So this suit is supposed to boost strength and speed... I dunno when they are going to be able to acually create this in real life but oh well!!!

Used to play my cousin's set all the time. Later got something called "Laser Strike" for Christmas, it blew so hard. It had a target you strap around your chest instead of a headset, so everyone I played with would just hide it when they were shooting ;_;

Edit - Oh yeah, on topic Lock On had a HUD-visor thing on the headset, showed lives left and possibly an ammo count.

I've heard that the military is developing a special suit that can detect where you've been shot or injured and will give you the proper drugs and/or other treatments automatically.

I also wonder if that "Skull Suit" from MGS2 is in the works...or if it's totally made up. The one that Raiden has that exerts pressure on certain organs for protection and/or increased performance.
