What is a degenerate triangle?

Everytime i comile my map i get these huge amounts of warnings saying degenerate triangle at( X X X) coordinates. I think it has to do with displacements but im not sure.

I'd suggest going to those co-ordinates and seeing what's there.

If I could win money by guessing, I'd say there'd be a wacky shaped face.

I believe the coordinates are for a vertex of a triangle and the other vertices of that triangle are in the same location as each other. In terms of Valve Hammer I'm not too sure (probably displacement) what could be wrong, I just knew the term from maths.
