Can't get decent framerates on FarCry :/. This may be due to lack of of RAM - I have 512 pc2700, CPU is xp2500+ and GPU Radeon 9700pro, all running at stock settings.

Someone suggested I get faster RAM and/or overclock my CPU. Would overclocking the frontside bus speed (it was suggested that 400 was a good speed)of my CPU prove difficult as my RAM only runs at 333mhz?

If so would it be better to get 512 pc3200 (can only afford that much) and overclock my CPU or another 512 of pc2700 (bringing the total to just over a gig) Or neither :)

I really have no clue about this stuff and would welcome any suggestions.

Not sure why you're getting low FPS, but if you get another 512 stick of PC2700, then you likely will get a performance hit due to having 4 banks of memory (or so I've been told, not exactly clear on the subject of ram).

Well you want to try to avoid the four banks of ram option, i've read in a lot of places you take a hit on performance. I didn't see where you said it would be your forth peice though, so i could be wrong. Though with your current system you should be running it just fine. Might wanna look at how many processes you have running in the background while you play the game? And make sure your drivers are updated. It doesn't sound like it's really a hardware issue as much as a software issue.

Ooh, also check for spyware.

Cheers for that :)

I seem to have loads of apps running in the background - but never know which ones are needed.

As for Spyware - what is it and how do I get rid of it? It sounds horrible :/

What's the mobo? Some support separate FSB and memory speeds, making you able to at least clock the CPU a little higher.
