what is 'Gold' release?

Please dont be offensive, this is a genuine question as I know next to nothing about game release and advertising. Is it like Platinum whicich is when a game sold a certain number of copies but before release? like expected number of copies TO be sold?

Just ive been reading through the forums and it pops up a lot.

No, Gold means something like -the game is done and it's ready to be shipped-Thank you for being nice!
 
In these terms, it's when the producing company sends the game to the distributing company to make the tons of copies. Basically means the game is done.

OMG you know something is wrong in the community when people that have just joined have to say something like ("Please dont be offensive") so that they can get a proper answer and try to avoid getting flamed.

Anyway like Tredoslop said, its when the finished copy of the game is sent to the manufacturers to start mass production.

not quite. It's called "going gold" because of the process that creates the master copy of the game which is a golden color.
 
I will have to admit, this thread greatly impressed me. As soon as I read his post I expected to see everyone flame him... but to see everyone so genuine and kinda about it was truly great. I think this place might be shaping up better after all. I hope to see this a lot more ;)

LOL, it's nice, yeah. But it's not going to last. Some bastard n00b headcrab is going to come in a flame/troll/bitch/gripe/moan/bash..... It's inevitable :borg:
 
There's a difference between this sort of question, and "OMGOMG WHY IS STEAM NOT WORKING!!1?questionmark" etc.

btw, anthraxxx, I'm just stating what has been going on lately. I may be a headcrab, but I rarely complain about anything.

Aye, his post was even discussed on the staff board. It's a reputation the whole forum has now all because of a couple of idiots who don't have the intelligence to reply nicely.

As I'm sure you've seen recently though, we're doing our best to combat it asap. Feel free to PM me or other mods if you have a complaint about someone.
 
This is the best forum i've been to in a while, especially considering the very large fanbase.
 
This forums is generally nice, as long as you dont post threads covering stuff that has been threaded multiple times. Of course, there are a few people who just generally like attention or have no manners since they will never meet you. Its sad to see people get scared off by people who troll.

/me hopes for VU press release tonight about HL2...and that its good news

I can tell you guys are doing the best you can. Like you said it only takes 1 or 2 idiots to do something while the moderators backs are turned to create a huge problem. Oh well, its to be expected on such a large forum.

People must asume that "noobs" are really young 'cause the box says: 18+! But just because we're young dosn't mean we're noobs. What if this guys has been playing FPS games when he was 6? And an 18 year just discovered the computer!?!??!

Like I said, everyone seems to THINK that noobs are young. Im betting that 70% of people on these boards deemed to be "annoying noobs" are actually 16 or older (which when you think about it is also a young age).
