With and without cheats. How do you get enough magicka to cast 800 point spells? Even a high elf born under atronach with intelligence 100 and some constant effect items can't get that much. And I tried using cheats and it seems you can't raise your intelligence higher than 100 something. Any suggestions?

Max for all skills is 100.

And why use cheats rather than the honest and much more rewarding way?

Do the mages guild recommendations and enchant some crazy Fortify Intelligence equipment?

So loads of the spells that are sold in game can't be used more than once? Seems like being a fighter is the way to have gone.

Not loads, just the best of spells require that much mana.

To be honest, I've maxed my stats as a mage now so I'll be building on my melee stats too, making me some crazy hybrid magic-spewing blade-wielding maniac!

Oh and the summons rock, they'll blow your socks off... both of them.

Did they include Devine Intervention or Alsami (whatever it was called) Intervention?

Heh, loads was a slight exaggeration, but I am slightly dubious about the magics. Can you really kick arse with it? How many really knock-em-dead spells can you manage with one reasonably full bar of magic, say at level 10? I'm all fighter so I realise that might be a horrifically dumb thing to ask, it's just i'm considering giving the old magic a go.

I made some spells that do 100 dmg in each element but I still want to be able to do max area. So the spell is like a nuke. However, doing this requires you to have an insane amount of magicka. If i can get about 800-1000 that would be good enough.

Ok so does that mean I can't use my 'finger of the mountain' spell or whatever its called that you get in the one of the mages guild recomendation quests (i thinks its Chorrol, maybe). As that apparently cost over 2000 magicka to cast, unless i'm being a dumbass and imagining things again!

I'm not far enough to make my own spells yet, but to be honest I don't particularly find Destruction magic effective. My best spells so far are summoning spells, Faded Wraith / Ice Atronarch / Daedra Spiders works wonderful and I can easily cast a second one when one of them dies. I just pump destruction magic for the sake of it, my character is at it's best with Summons + attacking with enchanted weapons. The Shield spells + Restore magic combo makes me one tough dude to kill.

it costs about 50 to cast for me (finger of the mountain)

I've got my magic up to around 200, almost always increasing intellegence on lvl up's, lvl 30 now.

we'll see how high I can get it

Breton (+50) + Mage (+50) + 100 Intelligence = 300 mana.

Sadly that's not enough for the higher tier spells, *sigh* I need some enchanted Intelligence equipment.

Finger of the Mountain is another "leveled quest reward", meaning that at level 20 it'll be insane, while at level 5, it's not even worth mentioning.

P.S. Is Intelligence:Mana a 1:1 ratio?

hehe yeah I didn't know about leveled quest rewards, my finger of the mountain does 5pts damage on 10ft lol, 6magicka to cast though, so it's a nice aoe spam spell while my magicka recharges (since the magicka use is negligible)

The amount of mana required to cast a specific spell is tied to the level of your spell ability. Ie. if it costs 800 mana to cast say a super fireball (made it up) at destruction level 20, it might only take about 100 mana at destruction level 80. It's not tied to your intelligence (except in that you need intel to increase the destruction skill)

ooooooooooooooooh. no wonder my finger of the mountain spell sucks so much dick. that's really dumb that they have it as one of the first mage guild quests if its a leveled quest reward. just another thing that bethesda did wrong with this game...

"Finger of the Mountain". I didn't learn that spell until, I dunno, level 20 or something. It's very powerful - something like 200 shock damage in a 10 foot radius - but it costs over 700 magicka to cast! I have 100+ intellect and I'm a master alchemist, with all expert-level alchemy apparati. Even my finest Fortify Magicka potions can't get my magicka anywhere near the level required to cast that spell!

I've been thinking of enchanting a whole set of armor with Fortify Magicka: helm, cuirass, greaves, boots, gauntlets, 2 rings, necklace. I have a sigil stone that can enchant an item with +50 magicka. If I cheat-dupe it and apply the cloned sigil stones to a set of armor, then drink my 4 potions, maybe then I'd have enough magicka to cast the spell... once.

Crazy.

Max magicka

My fingers of the mountain spell costs 1630 magicka to cast. How do you get your magicka level up to 2000? I am almost at 100 intelligence and I only have 190 magicka now. there are alot of spells I cannot cast. What can I do?

I found sneaking+sword is way more efficient. I tried to play a mage after my rogue+warrior subtype and it was ridiculous how weak I was by level 16 while my level 34 rogue+warrior dominated everything.

Magic in this game just plain sucks.

I disagree. If you play a pure mage carefully they can turn out to be the best way forward.

My preferred option for a pure mage is a Breton born under the Mage. This does not however, give you the most magika availabe. I merely ensures all magic related skills have a nice boost to get the ball rolling.

Spells drop in Magika requirement the higher your magic college knowledge increases. E.g. The higher your destruction, the less Magika required to cast "Enemies Explode".

The most Magika you can attain at the beginning of the game is a High Elf born under the Atronach. Unfortunately, no Magika regeneration and less prowess in magic ability enhancement.
