What is Radeon 9800XT?

It has faster clock speeds, but other than that, I'm not sure...

Wait for benchmarks to come out. I'm guessing it won't be worth the extra dough when it comes out. I'm hoping the 9800 pro (128mb) will drop significantly (hopefully $100) when the 9800XT arrives so I can buy it for cheaper. And it'll adequately run HL2.

Newer cards always push the price of older cards down. A business can't charge the same price for both cards if one is superior.

9700 Pro didnt drop much. They just discontinued it so we still had to pay huge wads of cash. Whos to say they'll cancel the 9800's?

they already have 'cancled' the 9800's that is, so it will just be 9800 pro's and 9800 xt's on the market in a few months.

Well, of course they can't charge the same price for the different cards, but the 9800XT(which will come with HL2) could come out and cost $500. If this happens, then it wouldn't make sense for ATi to lower the price of the 9800 pro from $400, now would it?

9700 to 9800 was moving over to a different product range (even if technically there's not much difference between them), while the 9800 XT is extending the range rather than replacing anything.

9800 will never be 100, you are fooling yourself. maybe 250, but that's where it will stay for a long while

I assumed that 'dis' meant that he hoped the 9800pro would be reduced by $100...not to $100. :dork:

Nah, not $100. The XT isnt even that big of a deal over the 9800 pro. $50 if your lucky.

/me *segues*

Ok, so what are the technical differences b'tween the 9800 pro 128 and the 9800 pro "ultimate" 128?

Errr....besides ~$80...

The HSF.

and the 9800SE...don't forget that'll be in place of the 9800nonpro...because you shouldn't buy one

yea, the HSF which i find to be a waste. Im not sure how much extra it is for the special card with the huge hsf, but my card has the regular one and its cooler than some people's special ones. I could leave my finger anywhere on the card for 10min...and i would not get burnt or anything. I have great airflow, with 5 80mm fans.

wow...heat sink and fan combo for a mere $80 more! rofl!
and that was bare min price comparison on pricewatch...
I do b'lieve I can adequately cool the entire interior of my rig for less.

Does anyone know if the XT is equipped with 256MB DDR-II? (then again, if it is prices at $399 AND HL2, it have to be the 128MB version)

There is a current 9800 pro 256mb that is DDR-II, and one is normal DDR. Well have to wait and find out if its the same with the XT.

The 256MB version has been throughly reviewed and we already know what are its specs:

380 MHz core speed.
700 MHz Memory DDR II.

This clock speed is slightly faster than the 680 MHz of the 128-MB Radeon 9800 Pro, and allows for a slight increase in overall bandwidth.

The XT is something "hybrid"...
