what is the size limit for a map?

I finished making a car map and when i was going to try it I got an error it said something like: map size is too big.

what is the size limit for a map?

he maximum map size is currently set at +/-16384 units (16x the horizontal area of Half-Life 1, 64x overall volume).
 
just set grids to on , then zoom out on side and top view thats how big ur map can be ( were the grids end )

Not true IIRC. It's 1/4 of that size, because the grid is 32768 units, not 16384. Although it seems to be possible to make 32768 unit maps. Don't ask how.
 
A map the size and shape of the grid probably wont compile in most situations, leave a couple of grid squares space around it.. Also the larger it is the lower you want the top of it, otherwise there's a lot of empty pointless space. Besides using the lower map and tricks from spirit of halflife and you can get far more in there.
