This is not about opinions anymore, this are now FACTS..

I've never, NEVER been so impressed by a game.

Let's have a look at the dictionary.

some more food for thought, i totally didn't feel immersed into half life 2.. immersion as far as graphics sound go, yes but honestly i stopped noticing them after the first scene... when i got the minipulator i started noticing them some more, but the level of immersion i feel when playing half-life1 utterly destroys anything i felt while playing half-life 2, this is obviously strictly opinion, but

half life 1 - everyone was pretty much scared and concerned generally talking amongst themselves then including you.. the characters in hl2 did do the same talking amongst themselves, then including you, but everyone was always casual and had this odd happiness humor to them (like the priest) sometiems switching off there do-da i'm a smurf doing my job happy as can be, to AHHH what do i do!? like when the combine we are on the move... it felt so childish sometimes, if it had been hl1 i felt like the scientest would not have looked nearly as happy, be constantly fine tuning things and be extremely frustrated at teh jacked equipment they were using compared to how things were. now i know its been sometime in the story line, but it totally didn't seem to fit.

The story needed to be made deeper to even consider this game as brilliant....it needs alot of improvements...and i agree future mods will be great...but the point is...the game isnt! and thats what i wanted. I respect that you like it though i think most of you just like it because its labelled "Half life"......but it seems all fps's that are coming to be are lacking story...and thats what needs to be changed....and i think conceptual artists and 3d artists and level designers also need to be more creative because the levels of all shooters since early 2003 remind me of another games levels!

I hate to break the circle here (I'm reading this forum for a while now and I'm a total fan of HL1),but I have to agree with Wakefield!

I am very disappointed with how the story is being told. There is no atmosphere. Granted, the levels are amazing and as far as I can tell, the graphics and physics are very sophisticated, but there isn't the same atmosphere than in HL 1! In HL 1, I had the impression, that before I got there, Black Mesa was already there. And through this incident, everything gets out of control and you have to get up to the surface. You're going through all these tunnels for a purpose. And there are facilities with phantastic things in it which serve some sort of purpose. You could even say that HL 1 made a bit a fool out of all the scientists in this world with all their toying around with things they don't really know about. In HL 2, there's nothing like that. You are fleeing constantly and the few scenes where a story's being told are so short, that you can't even start to get some feeling for the story! I mean: This "Vortigaunt" camp?!?! This is supposed to be THE place to hide from the enemy? There are TWO citizens and THREE vortigaunts, sitting around a fire. Not more. WTF? Where did all the details of HL 1 go? All the little discreprancies that made the first part so amazing? It's all so normal and linear!

HL 2 is a great shooter, but it's nothing more. I'm now hoping that the mods will even this out (hopefully some continuation of Black Mesa)

I LOVED the HL 1 maps! They were so surreal and kind of claustrophobic. HL 2 is something for a post card fotographer, but there'snothing all too special about it, imo.

Am I wrong?

I just got the game today and I played for one hour and a half before going to work wow. Now I know I'll be shunned for this but I never played half life 1. :O
I bought this game because I read about the intense engine that valve produced. I know I read someone saying that this game isn't as revolutionary as the first well even though I haven't played the first I have been playing pc games for 10 years that this game's graphics and physics engine is absolutely revolutionary.
I've played Far Cry and Doom3 2 and 1 heh. They have good graphics and gameplay but they aren't even close to what valve has accomplished here. Valve opened a door for the gaming community and if you didn't life half life 2 well cool I can't say whether I agree or disagree with you yet, but you will probably like a game that will be developed using their engine.
In short I think the game HL 2 is the minor accomplishment here but so far its awesome fun I'm in the canal running for my life and its great! Looks and runs better than Doom 3 on my pc!

I don't believe half the people here who are actually happy with this game...

This game reminded me of halo...And halo is possibly the worst fps i have ever played... the game starts off good...but goes downhill rapidly... until the very end when it recovers ever so slightly from the damage done between the beginning and end
