since its possible for us to use flying objects (at least in the mods) why not make a MOD like, oh i dont know, star wars.. with all of those HUGE space battles!! we could recreate the battle of hoth!! even with those four legged thingies!! imagine all of the possibilities!!!

check out the galactic conquest mod for battlefield 1942.... =D

although im sure source could do it better........ im a bit of a half-life fanboy though

but in the galactic conquest there are no battles in deep space are there?? in source... we could do that!!!! even with those HUUUUUUUGE space crafts that i cant remember the name

If scripted sequences/AI in Source have advanced in line with the other areas of HL2, such that AI and scripting becomes blurred to the extent that events do not always happen in a 'hardcoded' and scripted point in gameplay, but more as a result of the players actions then that will make Half-Life 2 for me.

An example of this is the most recent movie (barricade) where Barney and his (your) buddies appear to engage the enemy using the cover of vehicles, I believe Valve have attributed this to AI as opposed to pre-decided/hardcoded scripted sequencing.

Yep, thats what they said in the e3 presentation in that sequence: that it was AI, not scripted.. at least its what i thought i heard..

yup its deffo hl2's own AI well thats what the guy said anyway lol... was that Gabe? :p

The AI is advanced in the respect that they no longer need to be told to follow you, they will do it off their own backs because either you're leading or they have to protect you and cover you in someway. It's not scripted.

There will still be scripted events in the game such as speeches from other characters and certain actions will have to happen. There won't be a dynamic storyline with causality (ie. every action causes a subsequent reaction, or parts of the story change dependant on certain actions), but these scripted sequences will be more interactive as seen in Kleiner.

EG. Alyx is scripted to talk, Kleiner talks, Gordon knocks down monitor.
Kleiner moans, Alyx interrupts Kleiner.

or:
Alyx is talking, Kleiner talks, Gordon listens, Kleiner finishes speach, Alyx speaks.

Another example that it might apply to is tunnels:
Alyx talks, Combine jumps down ladder, Hydra spears soldier

or
Alyx talks, Combine jumps down ladder, Gordon shoots soldier, Hydra spears Alyx.

I could imagine that...
'YES! I killed the gaurd!!!, alyx is safe!:D' *hyrda kills Alyx* DOH!!'

The AI is pretty un-predictable,seeing as there isn't any more info, that's whats going to make Half-Life 2 exciting.

In addition to my previous post, I guess on a modding/editing front i'll be so happy if the Source enabled version of 'Hammer' makes scripting easier and more intuitive, especially the chaining and timing of events in a sequence.

As a modding newbie, I soon got lost in all the entity linkages and properties I had to setup just to get a relativley simple sequence to work, so much so that I gave up frustrated.

I still really want to make a map with some cool sequences, such as those on the inital train journey into Black Mesa.

Yup The Intro to Half Life 1 was well smart way was put together :)

The thing i am gona like is being able to make my mod the way i want it to be. ie fewer restrictions :)

and the game..........

Another thing that '...makes Half-Life 2' is the soundscape, the strange kind of techno back beat that speeds up and then slows down during various parts.

And the muffled shooting that's apparent even when you've kind of left the area of immediate action.

It was to long

yea lol that was well annoying especially when u wanted to play game again :( but it did start the story.. shame they didnt put in a skip button or summet :(. suppose a mod did that

Teh game, teh silver box that I will buy, teh modz, and teh physicz.....

And many other things too!

And one more thing. The character's eyes in HL2 are so detailed that you can look into them and not think "this is a computer game character". Really, try it. Maintain eye-contact throughout the G-man video. :)
