What makes HL2 different from most other sequels

This is just my opinion, add yours:

It doesn't have a pointless subtitle (Even Ground Control 2 has 'Operation Exodus' )

It's made by pretty much the same team as the origianal

It makes genuine advances in nearly all forms of technology

It is playable on lower-end machines

any more?

Yes, since the options are Scaleable ... its suppposed to be able to run on DX6 cards with a 700mhz Processor

Well there is at least one female in this one, it's been a while since i played HL1 but i can't remeber any female npc's in it at all.

The FPS should always be 60, the detail will drop on a low end machine not the fps.....in theory.

Ok you might end up playing with stick men on a white back ground but your fps should stay high.

well, it's more then just beefed up graphics, as some games do..
better story, bigger maps, higher level of detail and better vehicles (HL1 had bad vehicles ;-) ..
and I hope it got about 64players in mp :-D
at least more then 32..

The vehicles in HL weren't driveable.... but they were worlds removed from Quake 2 and Unreal... you could do some stuff with em

It actually makes sense to do a sequel... to continue the story

There weren't any good guys that were women... but there were the nija women in the game.

The Hologram for the Hazard Course was a woman, but that's pretty much it.

hl2 is a good sequel because valve did not just add 2 new monsters, 1 new weapon and some new MP maps and sell it as a whole new game like many other developers!

explain to me what the fun about 32 or more ppl servers is.. you usually only find noobs there, there is usually lag and its just chaotic spawnraping

I think the most important thing is.

they arnt just doing it for the money. Thats what i love about valve. They work to give us games not just to please the publisher

its not something that was rushed out to make money, while keeping all the bugs and the same engine.

And it advances another step in gaming, much like the original did.

I think what set's it apart from other Sequels is the fact that the people at Valve are really trying to make this THE sequel for gaming industry, not just add some stuff and try to ride the popluarity of the first HL.

Yep, they are really pushing things forward, they are making a game that is going to wow everyone, and hopefully will be a different experience every single time, due to cutting-edge Physics and AI

What makes HL2 different then other sequels is that its existence was held from the public's psyche till it was most advantagous to its developers to announce it to the world.

I think max payne 2 should drop the 2 like Deus ex did. And be called just "The Fall of Max Payne".

Max Payne 2 uses havok 2. Neato indeed.

If 32 people was somewhat sparse in some HL maps... imagine what it will be like on maps that have 4x the dimensions (64x the volume).
If the netcode only sends data that is relevent to what you experience from your perspective it will not be very laggy (if the server can handle the upstream bandwidth... dsl/cable can handle the downstream bandwidth easily but the upstream is capped too low) for the players unless lots of them gather in the same place.

I have a nice, warm feeling that HL2 multi will be massed battles in City 17.. just random speculation, but it could be right.. I don't know... kinda like futuristic Joint Operations, with HL2 theme
