Read reviews, watch movies etc etc.

I hardly ever buy games anymore quite frankly there never really worth it, I only buy them if there going to last me longer then a week, buying Halo 2, fable, hl2, the sims 2, and the CoD addon when they all come out. But others that I'd play once, like doom, I just downloaded and played, I was planing on buying it but then it turned out crap, so I was'nt interested in multiplayer.

Anyways... soo reviews/previews, and videos, Im a member of ign insider so I get to see video reviews alot, so thats handy.

Well, if a game get's mediocre reviews or average reviews, I might overlook that if I'm a fan of the genre or the franchise. If it's a game that I just heard of, I may look at reviews and then give it a try-say, through a demo?

I usually would consider a game from any of those options but what about if you liked the original, thats why most people are getting HL2 isn't it?

I usually buy a game when I see good screenshots or movies. It shows you what the game is like and lets you get a feel for it. If you listen 2 the reviews and its a bad one, it might not be really telling you anything cuz its really that persons opinion not yours. But you know thats just how I go with it.

 Reviews, well nowadays it's like you know what's a good game worth your money; a game everyone raves about.

Some titles i'll buy simply because i'm a fan of the series (Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Halo etc), or particularly like the genre. Others i'll get based on the developer - anything by Nintendo/Sega/Bioware/Valve gets my cash.

For the rest i'll wait for an Edge review and other peoples opinions before purchasing.

Probably a combinaion of all of those, I was really anticipating STALKER but after seeing the videos i'm not really into it anymore. On the other side of it the video's and screens of Battlefield 2 make me want that game even more.

Reviews on wether the game works or not and if il replay it. I just ordered UT04 as i can play instagib on lan with my mates, whereas i can't with BF:Vietnam... so playing on LAN with my mates is a good desciding factor.

All of the above. This should be a multiple choice poll.

Playing it. Every single game I own, I have played somewhere before buying.

I feel exactly the same way about those two games. On the other hand I feel like I'm obligated to purchase BF2, I've bought all of the Battlefield series so far (yes including SW and RtR) hehe. :)

Particularly, the game would have to score at least a 90% on PCGamer and name begins with "Half" for me to even consider a purchase.

I don't read reviews at all.

I generally go by what I've read about it (Story, gameplay, graphics, not actual people saying whats good/bad) and by what friends say.

Seeing a good looking movie or some nice screenshots

It doesnt take much for me to like a game.

It is based on

developers - ID software, Blizzard, Ensemble Studios automatically get my cash.

Interests - arcade-like fps, arcade racing games (NFS), strategy, and action RPGs

Reviews - I don't buy low scoring games. I don't have the money to buy the occasional bomb.

Ravensoft better not **** up with Quake 4 or my life is ruined. A game with Quake in the title automatically gets my cash because Quake kicks ass. In fact, they should do a retelling of the first Quake game.

You are right. However, Quake never had a story. It had 2 paragraphs of gibberish with the instruction booklet.

Quake 2 at least attempted (and succeeded) at creating a story.

Quake 4 is on my buy list. I doubt ID software will let Ravensoft screw up Quake 4.

Reviews and Demo, definately. There are a number of games I haven't played (or didn't play for a while) because there wasn't a demo released. Delevopers should be encouraged to make more demos.
