i just installed a new firewall and need to know the ports to open cause every since i installed it im extremely laggy

it can vary..... it can be anything that is open u can have 1337 if its configged

Unless I'm mistaken, ports are an all or nothing deal. You either connect and play, in which case the ports are open, or you cannot connect at all, in which case a port is closed that shouldn't be.

Either way, a closed port is not your problem. I'm not saying its not your firewall, but looking to open ports isn't going to help you with lag. Perhaps the firewall is using a lot of system resources, causing system lag?

Yeah, if a port is blocked, you can't connect.... therefor you would get no lag because you wouldn't be able to play in the first place :)

Who makes your firewall? That way people can give more specific support... if any

Not neccessarily, Im not sure how it works, but some people can connect but when they do so they are laggy or high ping. Its similar to the problem with msn messenger file transfer, with all inbound ports blocked you can still send and recieve files but the program tells you that its very slow and that you need to open some ports.

Anyway, from steam support, the following:

The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive

The above should work, hope that helps.
