Yea, I agree. On my monitor 1280*1024 looks perfect, anything else is wierd or just doesnt look nice.

People use 1280x1024 thinking its the correct aspect ratio (just because they've heard all their mates use it) ...

1280 x 960 is the correct aspect ratio - it goes:
640x480 - 800x600 - 1024-768 - 1280x960 - 1600x1200

1280x1024 just looks squashed up and weird unless you're on a TFT that has a different pixel aspect ratio and supports native 1280x1024. If you're on a CRT 19" get your noobed rears back to 1280x960!!!

You missed 1152x864 :|

Anyhow, I have to agree with others here, not only does my monitor not look right at 1280x960, I can't stretch the image far enough to properly fill the screen. Still, it looks funny when properly set smaller.

This coming from someone who used 1024x768 for 4 years, then jumped ship to 1280x1024 :)

1152x864 was never a resolution, it was just a halfassed attempt at 1280x960. :p

Bah ok, well you know what I meant :D

:O 1024 x 728 for desktop in my current games I got it 1280 x 1024. I want to use 1280 x 1024 for my desktop resolution, but can't that mess up your vision since everything is so small causing you to strain your eyes to see?

Hmmm so if I have a monitor that has native 1280x1024 it souldn't look messed up if I have it on 1280x1024 ratio?

Can set the DPI higher, to see icons better :)

If you have trouble reading things at 1280*1024, you must have a 4" monitor or something.

1280x1024

But I game at 1024x768 usually.

1600x1200 @ 85Hz on my 21" Nokia monitor (about 5-6 years old).

Desktop - 1024*768*32 @85Hz
Gaming - 1280*1024*32 @85Hz (highest my 17" monitor can go)

I know it's not a 4:3 aspect ratio, but when I go from 1024*768 to 1280*960, the screen goes off-center by about a half-inch, but when i go from 1024 to 1280*1024 it fits perfectly. It's less hassle, so I don't have to change my screen position/stretch every time I go from game to desktop.

Plus having a 960 width makes everything look squished horizontally... I'm not sure how that works out.

1024x768...

My screen goes out of proportion if I choose something else...meaning like if I pick a different resolution the display will be uneven and I'd have to re-adjust it so it appears full screen.

Doesn't your monitor save those settings you set for that resolution once you get it set right, though?

setsetsetset
Ahem

2560x960 @ 85Hz Desktop
1280x960 @ 85Hz Games
Being that these babies are 17" monitors, 3200x1200 looks a bit small.

Not on older monitors

My LCD wont go over 1024x768. ;(
There is another monitor that I can change to which handles higher resolutions but it's blurry.
Trying to read longer texts, on that one, gives me a headache.
And since I like to be able to read... and since I do a lot of programming, I prefer this one.

1280x960 max on my monitor, but I can get away with 1280x1024 sometimes, it's weird because if I try using that on some games it'll give me an "over range" warning =/
