What Should Be Jackson's Next?

Well with Peter Jackson's King Kong out on DVD now, what would be your ideal project for him to tackle next. While he's producing the Halo movie, I think we can assume he hasn't hung up his directing hat. This is meant to be total fantasy, so just throw out whatever you think would be a good fit.

Personally I just reread through HP Lovecrafts "At the Mountains of Madness," and it seems like it would be a good fit for Jackson. His background in horror and gift for amazing imagery seems ideal for bringing such a unique brand of thirties horror to the screen. I can only imagine what the folks at WETA would think up to depict a millions of years old dead city buried in the Antarctic ice.

Anyone have any other really good ideas?

I don't know if the public is ready for a Lovecraft film. Jackson's most likely going to stay doing mainstream films now with all the money he's making.

I heard rumors a while back that after Kong he was doing the Hobbit...but I doubt it.

Actually, you make mainstream films if you need money.

i have great idea, he should do a movie about, i dunno, a murdered 14 year old girl who recalls what happened from Heaven, as the incident affects those around her, or something like that, they could call it "the love skeleton" or " bones of love"..........NO I GOT IT " the lovely bones", that would be perfect.

Hahaha, I had no idea :p.
Thanks for the news.

Well if jackson can turn a 10 minute movie (original king kong) into a spectacular 3 hour wonder, I'd choose him for just about any movie.

Yeah, well Jackson could turn a 30 second Mentos commercial into a 3 hour epic...

I think he needs to work on building suspense. Dumbest thing ever in Kong:

"S-K-U-L-L I-S-L-A-N-D"

Skull Island...might as well have called it Death Island or Mortal Peril Island.

I still like Jackson's work...but he needs to learn to condense his movies. It's fine that the LOTR movies were long, I just think there were plenty of moments in Kong that were just stretched too far.

Agreed...
But in the original Kong I'm pretty sure it was also called Skull Island.

But all of the slo-mo sequences in the movie were really poorly done...
Like when Jack was typing the name of the island? That was really corny.

And when the natives begin attacking the group? Overkill of slo-mo...

But other than those things, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
I'm planning on picking up the original later on today in fact.

Sweet, I noticed Jackson was the producer for Hallow and Alex Proyas was the director. LOL I though Uwe was to direct this one.

That might be enitrely true (its open to debate probably), but it's just a fantasy project of mine.

I dunno if this is a quote from Jackson but I remember someone saying he was interested in making a movie about WW1. I'd certainly think he'd be the right man for directing one. We need more war movies about WW1.

Oh hey, I'd love a Lovecraftian movie too. Especially if it was like the new game, Dark Corners of the Earth. A film noir/horror? Jackson could probably pull it off.

If he is planning on doing a WWI film, that's great. There really haven't been many WWI movies. There so many wars/battles that are barely covered. Spainish Civil War, French-Algerian War, Korean War, Bay of Pigs, etc.

Half Life.

ONLY if told from the perspective of someone outside of the game's storyline.

Hell, there should be more games about WW1. What about a movie based on Giants: Citizen Kabuto?

I'll just say it: He needs to do The Hobbit before Ian Holm gets too old to really be believable. I just don't believe that anyone could do it justice except for Mr. Jackson. I think he has also earned the right to do so after masterfully handling Lord of the Rings.

I would love a movie of At The Mountains Of Madness, but I fear that its just not in the cards...at least not as a big-budget pic. Unless Oprah puts it in her bookclub of course...then people will be crawling all over each other to get in on it! *yak*

Yes, but the question is would he want to? 16 months, 9+ hours( of film) and almost 3 billion dollars later, youd think he'd want to explore new territory.

He may, but if anyone in the world is going to do it, everyone in the world must realize it must be him. To have a different director with a different cast and such would spoil the continuity quite a bit. Plus, his screenwriting team would knock it out of the park! Boyens, Walsh, and Jackson rule!

The Hobbit would be easy money. Not because Jackson succeeded with LOTR, but because the story is conducive to a family-fun blockbuster.

...I ****ing hate the Hobbit.

Matter of fact, I hate Hobbits in general. I hope he doesn't do that.

12 hour long film with no intervals...

The Silmarillion.

He needs to stop making remakes, look at all the best directors, they didn't get big by remaking stuff

except Coppola, The Godfather ftw

You mean book adaptations right?

Haha...but he's ALREADY big, and he did it through adaptions. He's shown himself to be a postive genius when it comes to taking source material and actually translating it to the screen in a way thats not only faithful, but absolutely incredible.

"The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant"

If he did that, I'd personally visit Feath (who looks kinda like Peter Jackson on some days) and pay for an entire night's drinking with him.

Then you could visit me! 20 minutes away from Feath...providing he ain't in Edinburgh still :p

Better take a loan out, wine is damn expensive

I loved the videos to Thriller and Billy Jean, great for his time. However, I think Jackson's musical career is pretty much over by now.

Well, it was appropriate since the whole thing was in part a satire of hollywood and showbusiness in general and simultaneously a love letter to it. It was funny as hell, I thought.
