Well, while I was on a trip, my foreign exchange student got a virus/spyware on my computer. And it so happens to be the worst that I have ever seen. I used every program and even reformatted, and yet the spyware is still there. This is also causing blue screens which is pissing me off.

So what should I do... Shoot myself? Shoot him? blahhhh

are you serious???? you sure you formatted????? could you explain your method of removing it.

also if you "formatted" then there would be an option for you to either restore(which will reinstall windows but still keep all of your files) or delete your partion(which would be formatting or wiping the hard drive)

Once you format, all files including "Viruses and spyware" should be deleted.

Unless it's on the boot sector. Have to do a zero fill on the entire drive. Formating just makes the PC forget what information it had on the partition. But you didn't touch the mbr (master boot record) or write over the disk with 0's (truely erase data).

When we (At work) usually do (Low Level Format) or (Zero out) is when we’re throwing away drivers, and we have separate machines which do nothing but Low-level-formatting.
The reason is that; Because of the tremendous valuable data stored, and to test the integrity of the drive. After we done with zero outing, we do have drill machines we use to drill a hole in the middle of the disk, before discarding them.
But when it comes to regular formatting; deleting partition will make disk as (Raw) and doing the extended-format (Not the quick format) will delete all data, including data in (MBR) and that usually works.
It must be one very clever virus-spyware to override formatting process, and keep previous MBR intact and unchanged. That’s why BIOS can't never find MBS (Master-Boot-Sector) or MBR on RAW disk.

Check your hardware and drivers for compatibility issues, also check your CPU and MB components temp for performance issues.
Vista is still full of bugs and it may be having problems with some of the hardware/hardware drivers compatibility.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the replies. I know I formatted then completely reinstalled. I finally got rid of most of the problem. It was just weird that the problem persisted even after I formatted and reinstalled.
