Ok, I can play guitar/write music, and I just finished my training in writing music, and I want to be a music teacher for my career, but I want to be a music teacher alone, so if I want to do that I will have to learn about 8 or 9 other intruments, and I was wondering, should I take the time and money to invest in these skills, or should I choose another career path? I was thinking marine biologist, I looove fish and squids and jelly fish. Or should I become a game designer, simply put: I LOVE GAMES.

So my question is, should I train to be a Music Teacher, Marine Biologist, or Game Designer?

I love all these careers, I got a jump start on the music, but I still got a long way to go.

I want to know because I am starting highschool, and I need to train as best I can in my career choice, It's a difficult decision and I was wondering if you guys could help.

I don't know if you did this on accident or not, but please do not make duplicate threads.

Wow I really do sound like a moderator.

Umm, anyway.... Game designer all the way :p What kind of feedback do you expect from a gaming forum?

I think the gaming buisiness is hard to get into so stick with music.

I accidentally clicked the "Post New Thread" button 2 times, I'm sorry.

Or you could become a tutor and earn about 100 times more than a music teacher.

Look, you are a freshman in High School. Believe me when I say don't worry about it at this point. Now is not the time to be preparing for your career, that is what college is for. Be willing to to keep your mind open, and remember that what you love to do may not be the best career. When I was a freshman, I had my heart set on game development as well, after all, I loved games. After I took a couple of classes, I realized that it really wasn't for me. The same thing happend with business. Likewise, you could go into a class with little idea of what is involved and come out with your new career. I'll say it again, keep your options open, you've got pleanty of time before this dicision actually matters.

Do whatever you enjoy the most. You'll be able to make a living doing any of those things. It's good to have a plan, but don't you think it's a little early to be worrying about what you're going to do with your life? I'll be a junior this year, I'm just now looking at colleges....it sounds like you're trying to have your future set before you even begin High School.

If you want advice on which classes you should take, here's mine. Take music (I have no idea if there's different sorts of music classes considering I don't play an instrument), 3 years of science (at least) including Biology and Chemistry along with whichever business classes interest you. Business 1-whatever isn't a bad place to start. If you're interested and it's offered, take computer programing as an elective sometime in the next four years. (can't hurt right?) That way you have a background in everything by the time you get to college and have to make a proper decision.

They sound pretty random, and extremely specific.

For example, my current 'career direction': something in journalism. Now, I know for this I need to take some journalism course, english, history, politics etc. But it's quite vague.

What you've got there is three completely seperate and all-too specific career choices. I mean, what if one doesn't work out? You need a more general idea of where you want to go.

A person can't really be good at game designing only and nothing else, talents are more broader than that. Do whatever you want, really, and don't try and avoid something because people say it's too difficult. I'm not saying you'll be lucky and become the greatest ever, just that you'll have a hell of a better time trying to do something difficult than doing something easy.

Well, here's my deal,
For music, I have a headstart (learned guitar) but I still have a long way to go learning everything else.
For Marine-Biology, I already know ALOT about fish, I watch animal planet and discovery channel alot.
For Game Design, I downloaded this program called "Game Maker 6.0" and made 2 games, I know this is a crappy program, but I still got an idea of how games are made.

So I do have experiance in all my choices, and I still can't make up my mind,

Become a Teacher of Musical Marine Biotical Games!

What? It's normal for kids of his age to start thinking about a career.
Best to get a headstart than not start at all.
