Don't know, the offical benchmarks aren't out yet, but you'll be fine.

you'll definitely be fine with everything on very high and full AA/AF at 1600x1200. But we don't know for sure yet

I don't know... From what I hear you need a super computer from 5 years in the future to get a decent framerate in HL2.

There is special code in HL2 to make Nvidia cards sux, you should know that.

It will handle it great. On par with a 9800pro or better.

asus is right, as hl2 has the code to force the nvidia cards to run lower shader quality (eg in farcry) in order to achieve competitive, playable frame rates. tho the 6800 series adress this problem head on, and should be able to produce the goods in dx9 games in the future (or not so distant future fingers crossed).
you WILL be fine as the new 6800 series are the 2nd best on the market, and blow the 9800xt away ffs. if the 9800pro is a beast in hl2, then u will definitely be fine with the 6800...ive always found nvidia more reliable (ie never had any problems), but i still got the 9800pro

I estimate .. <20 FPS. nVidia cards suck for HL2.

If the rest of your specs are up to scratch, you'll get blinding FPS.
