What source will offer for DOD

I believe that source is going to create a huge opportunity in terms of realism and teamplay concerning the WWII genre. The physics and useable vehicles is going to offer so much in terms of mods - we have no idea. Imaging full maps with units dug in and nades exploding with debree of sandbags and crates and cans flying everywhere. Explodable walls (much more so than in HL1)..... We can truly have beach landing maps and airstrikes that do damage. Mounting mgs on objects will be much more dynamic... too much to think about :) Any other ideas?

well all that is good, and possible... however I doubt it will be in DOD:S at least initially.

as they said that they are reworking the art for DOD:source, but I don't think to the degree that was in CS:S.

hopefully dod source is more like cs source and less like hl source.

no one knows, depends what they are doing with it.. .if it's going to be like HL:S probably soonish, if like CS:S then it might take a while... since they only started working on it recently (the dod team were helping with HL2 and CS:S)

I would say perhaps after TF2 is released, though we have no idea when that is either heh.

That's funny, I thought it would be released the same time as HL2 and HL:S, therefore I was very suprised that DoD:S wasn't in the "my games" list, but in the "coming soon", even after the 16th.

DOD Source comes out before TF2.....DOD: S Should be out soon sometime because its in our "Coming Soon" steam section...

It won't be out November or December. You can definitely rule out January and February 2005 because you just don't release games in those months.

If not March 2005 i would have to say mid-2005.

Either way , it's not coming soon.

In a comment that waldo made at steampowered, he insinuated that it was all up and running, and that they had been play testing. I wouldnt expect it to be too far of, after all they offered it with HL2 so they must be reasonably confident that it will be ready for public consumption some time soon.

Not even close. It's not up and running. The DoD GoldSrc code isn't even close to being fully ported to the Source engine. That's why Trp. Jed and Ginger Lord had to playtest dod_density as cs_density on the CS version of the source engine.

It's far off. Far off as in "Half Life 2 will be out before the summer" far off.

I heard the first release would be somewhat between HLS and CSS; better graphics, some redone maps, and use of the physics, but other than that nothing special.

Personally I'm expecting around March for the first release, and maybe 2 months after when it starts getting real good.

duh. it'll create a huge opportunity in terms of realism and teamplay concerning ANY genre.

Erm... You dont have to be confrontational about it. It's open discussion on what it can offer - not discussion on "duh, you're right."

i dont think he really meant to be mean or anything, but ya i agree with both of you

I personally don't think that being on the Source platform will change DoD gameplay one bit, but it'll just look prettier. It's really all up to the mappers and how they want to run with it from there.

I dont think Valve will be very innovative with DOD:S. Valve seems to let the community be innovative and then buy the innovation.

The mod community will be the ones making the super realistic WW2 mod... Valve will be making the game that nearly everyone can have fun playing....

dod_charlie + mg42 + snipers + hopefully we can shoot 88's = MEAT GRINDER!!!!!

I too hope that DoD: S is more in line with CS: S than HL: S, unless its converted well, then there is really no point in converting it.
