what the heck are the gold coins and mecha eggs for?

Ok, dumb question, but what the heck are the little gold coins and the tiny mechanical eggs used for? I collected a few, but they don't show up in my inventory.

Do I buy roses for Alyx with these? Do I trade em for cash prizes???

they are the white bombs for those combine machineguns, those energy'blast's that bounce around and explode. they have their own ammo

'mechanical eggs' - I think that you are talking about the secondary ammo for combine pulse rifle. you know - to shoot those bouncing, enemy-dissolvin orb thingies.
'little gold coins' - well probably you are to buy flowers, but to Daisy, not Alyx. of course if You first defeat Koopa

Umm, the "mechanical eggs" are the ammo for the pulse rifle's secondary fire, but as for gold coins?!?!?! Are you SURE you are playing HL2? How about a screenshot to make it easier to know what you are talking about, cause I cannot remember any of these.

well, Toadstool is really an a$$hole. unless you give him that fiery flowers he won't let you in to Daisy's castle. but I read somewhere, that the talkative vort that roast a headcrab can give you a hint on how to get the flowers BEFORE finding them in the hydra level. but first you must bring him all three parts of The Wraithverge. and I still can't find two of them (first being the one that Barney gives You after You put on the HEV suit)

Good work on figure out what the hell the Gold Coins were. I could not think of anything that would fit that description offhand. To the thread poster (and anyone else reading), PLEASE, if you ask about something generic where you are not sure of the right name, please give us SCREENSHOTS so we can tell what you are talking about, instead of thinking there is some kinda mario mod for Half Life 2! :upstare:

actually, on my comp, the gold coins were the pulse rifle secondary...never saw a mecha egg...

Well, when you pick up the mechanical eggs, a little picture of what might look like a gold coin appears on your hud, so you could be confusing two different things which are actually the same thing.
