What time will source unlock in UK

Hi all,

Got into work this morning and first thing to do as always is check to see if HL2 is gold yet and it is!!!!

I pre-ordered on steam and now I need to know which day I should book off work so that I can spend a whole day playing as soon as it is out so my question is what time US will steam be unlocking and what time will this be in the UK.

the steam unlocking will happen at the same second in the whole world
different times (i mean the GMT..)
but in the SAME second, just wait for the 16 nov, it should happen there some hour

Why should it be unlocked when the game its in the stores? If it is Gold they could released it via steam now. I don`t see why we have to wait for it to comes to the stores...

I'll be getting my minions to work extra hard that day so they don't notice me in my office killing headcrabs and Zombies....then I'll just go home and carry on playing once the kids are in bed.....and the wife stops nagging.....oh and once I have walked the dog. :angry: I'm gonna stay at work

Well as soon as one country gets it, we all do (as I understand). So the time in the UK will be whichever country hits the 16th first. I'm hoping we don't have to wait until the shops open there too

Did a little looking around and it will unlocked on Steam at 12:01AM Nov 16th WORLDWIDE which means even though it won't hit the stores in UK till the 19th for legal reasons it will be available to steam users on the 16th. This works out about 8:00AM for the UK I think.

And come on folks, we've been waiting 2 years for this, I think it deserves a day off work to savour and enjoy!

Thanks for doing the research for us. I'm wondering if Steam will download the decryption tool before 12:01 and just activate it at that time, or whether the Steam network is going to be hammered for hours as millions of people try and download the final bits. I can't believe we're now discussing at what *minute* we'll get the game

There doesn't seem to be a really definitive answer to the question asked. I'm in the U.K. and new to steam, I've pre-loaded HL2 and have completed stage 6 of the install. If the final stage is released @ 12.01 A.M. Pacific Time on the 16th of November will I be able to play the game at 8.01 A.M. GMT on the 16th of November? I would like a definite answer, as like a million other people I'm taking the whole day off work. The way I justify it is, how important is work really? Especially when you've got history in the making only a few weeks away.

And finally does anyone know how large the last download will be? Is it just an activation code? This would make sense, if a million people try at the same time to download, say a 100mb it might bring the whole net down, and none of us would be able to play, well at least until 9 A.M. when I'd buy it from a game retailer.

That's like one of my Halo fanboy friends, he said he's going to some grand Halo 2 opening at EB at 12am just to get the damn game first. Kudos to Steam, all I have to do is restart it

Say a game store opens at 10:00 in Australia. That means Valve have to release it on Steam right then, right?

Australia is +10 GMT, so that would make it 00:00 of 16th for the UK and afternoon/evening of the 15th for the US.

Well, in theory.


With a bit of research, Valve could nail down the time and unless a store decides to change their opening times it would be set in stone.

Another person has said the same, it is realeased via steam world wide the second the 1st country hits 12.01 on the 16th of November. Hence my original question. So why have the publishers said it will be the 16th, if it's gonna be realeased in Oz on the 16th but the U.S on the 15th. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case. If anything it's got to be the U.S @ 12.01 on the 16th. Just my 2p's worth or cent where ever you're from.

N.B. I've never had a forum reply so quickly it's like the world is now only the size of a HL2 DVD
