What to do when being Ddosed?

A Denial of Service attack is where one or many computers repeatedly sends packets to another computer or server in an attempt to consume all of its bandwith or processing power.
These requests can overload the server and prevent legitimate people getting responses, or prevent that machine from doing anything. DoS attacks are usually launched against websites to prevent other people from viewing/using them.
A DDos is a Distributed Denial of Service Attack and is launched from many computers simultaniously. This kind of attack usually uses zombie machines that are infected with some sort of trojan.
I dont think a firewall can prevent a DoS, but it may help you trace the launcher. Why do you feel someone has launched a DoS against you?
If you think you are being DoSed, try changing your IP address, using a proxy, or informing your ISP.

It's a distributed Denial of Service Attack. Your connection is simply flooded with packets.nofx said:

Yeah, turn your modem off and on, and check your IP at www.whatsmyip.org
If it doesnt change, you might have to turn off your modem for up to 8 hours to be assigned a new address.
