What u want in next , if any , HL2 trailer vids?

What's all this I hear about deformable terrain? I heard that Source supports it but I sort of doubt we'll see it in action... possible, mind.

As for videos- presuming their not what the mags have already seen- I'd like to see content that PCGamer apparently saw a year or so ago. Things like the Ant Lion guard smashing the hell out of an APC full of Combine (then proceeding to push it off a cliff), or the time Gordon allegedly held a metal grating to protect himself from a turret (did we ever decide whether they meant with hands or Manipulator? I vaguely remember someone getting a reply regarding that... that both were possible, or something...?). Failing that, bring on vehicles within City 17's boundaries. I want to see Gordon (and possibly allies) speeding through an otherwise deserted street as a strider begins moving and firing towards them...

Oh, and yeah, seeing old favourites back would be neat. Wonder if we'll see any more weaponry.

I want to see a video of a gargantua fighting a strider. I don't care if it's in the game or not; I just wanna see it.

Also, weather effects. Rain, specifically. Hmm...I wonder if you could simulate a tornado in Source, and have it throwing stuff around with the physics? That'd be awesome.

Edcrab, where did you hear about these events? If they are real, video's of those would be really cool. :)

EDIT: And to Darkside, Valve said one of their employees made a tornado with source, and it did throw everything around. :)
Funny you thought of that...

Acctully PC Zone mentioned those same 2 videos last year also, they were only shown to the devs and media before e3, i doubt its anything to important, and im sure we will see somthing just as cool at E3.

Valve did say that you can use your hands to pick up objects, so the metal grate thing should be possible both ways. The possibilities are exciting! :bounce:

YAY!

...and now I want a benchmark/demo. Or the game. Gah, I can feel a little bit of excitement trying to colonise parts of my brain...

you can see rain in source engine in one of ign's new vampire the masquerade bloodlines screenshots, the rain is pretty boring, doesnt look very advanced.

I want to see:

Deformable terrain in action.
a tech demo depicting:
-- Forward Dynamics and Inverse Kinematics animation - preferably showing a Strider walking on VERY uneven terrain
-- Weather Effects
-- more cool physics interaction, like the Plinko thing with barrels
In-game video of Combine squad tactics
More of that flare-gun
HL2 running with AA in high-resolution widescreen on the ATI R420/x800
The new Vortigaunts
Videos of the new enemies mentioned in the magazines, such as:
Rollermines and the new helicopter
Showing how the weather can affect world physics, i.e. you can add wind that may knock over objects, or rain that decreases object friction
More FIRE!!!
***Little to no story info, apart from what's been mentioned in the magazines.

I'll think up some more stuff.

deformable terrain since when?....
i doubt rain will decrease object friction, because they're just sprites, this isnt real life, they dont pool on the ground or anything...

Source is real-time engine..

"real-time" is vague, calling an engine that makes no sense, of course the engine is real time, it runs the game as you play, therefore being real-time....(like every other engine...) (sorry i just dont see what your comment had to do with anything..)

The E3 techdemo from last year showed a flat floor suddenly turn into a hilly area as an example of deforming terrain.

Yes but I thought he meant dynamic floor, like you being able to shoot at it, effectivly "digging"

I'd really, REALLY like to see some more of the A.I. in action. Especially the combine. I'm very curious how they'll work together and use the surroundings for cover etc.
I mean, we've seen some friendlies fighting alongside, but the enemy AI was toned down at that time. I'd like to see some clever teamplay on their side, maybe the same vid again (The one with barney, forgot the name) but this time WITH enemy AI.

(long time lurker, first time poster btw :hmph:)

The video was called Barricade, it's the first one.

I want to see a video of a strider dieing, that way can get a good idea of how many bullets and where to hit, or how many crowbar hits to the legs!! LOL, I'm obsessed with it, but it seems like it would be so much fun killing a strider, and watching it fall down to it's death!

then he's already seen "deformable terrain" (and its not dynamic, it was scripted). you can't do like redfaction 2 type shit, digging holes to hell with rockets...

Don't mean to go off-topic, but you could do that in the first Red Faction as well.

I'd just like to see a vid that isn't a major spoiler running at high settings DX9 mode with HDR etc but with none of the problems of last year.

for example:
-antlion attack animation & bodies clipping through objects.
-place holder blood and impact sprites etc.
-bullet sparks and decals showing through models.
-Shadows facing the wrong way.
-Creatures not reacting to bullet impacts BEFORE they die.
-Exaggerated ragdoll bounce when Combine hit the ground from a height.
-What should be physically simulated things demonstrating perpetual motion.(eg. the I-Beam)

im aware...too bad it didnt make it a good game ;/

If you are refering to the antlions going through those mattresses, I want you to know that in the beta atleast, on that level, those objects you can walk right through, and shoot right through, I don't know why but that explains your little peeve. Well, except for going through walls.

I don't think the bounce was exxagerated (sp?) at all.

And who said the I-Beam would keep swinging? It is a heavy object, and we saw it swinging back and forth only like 10 times, you have no idea if it will keep swinging or not. Except if you have actually watched it until it stops, which I have, and it does stop. Why wouldn't it? Gravity is making it swing, and therefor it will make it swing lower and lower, not one or the other my friend.

I don't know where you got this idea, it has alot of momentum due to it's weight.

Ah ok - if that is the case then it suggests that the mattresses didn't have proper bounding collision hulls defined at that point... Hopefully that was just a time constraint rather than a limitation of objects with "springy & flexible" physics properties.

Not a big deal, but when in barricade Gordon shoots the Combine at the top platform he falls down and bounces off cement more than I think he should...

Yes I understand basic physics :p. You're right though, we didn't see enough to make a proper determination, but I hope that the swing arc would dampen over time if you stayed around and waited... I have a suspision that at that point in time it didn't because many of those Father Gregory traps demonstrated look like set-pieces rather than real interactions...

I wanna see the exact same things, except i didn't think the ragdoll was exaggerated in the Barricade clip. I think its because if you fell from a height like that, you wouldn't bounce because your face would been smashed to pieces. But since the game can't simulate bones breaking, thats probably why.

Well im sure you can make craters if u can do what they did in the Tech video. You just apply a modifier to the displacement map (or whatever the name for that kind of height map is) that say, like applying an airbrush to a picture in Photoshop. You couldnt go on forever, and you couldnt have tunnels, but you could have craters.

I'd like to see a new tech demo with new technology :) Possibly display some non-hl2 content on the source.

I don't wanna see anything. It will reveal too much of the game. Well, maybe some short clip of the deformable terrain in action, like someone already mentioned.

i would like to see some multiplayer action, more shotguns, and better blood effects T_T...

Rumours going around that TF2 is (along with deathmath mode etc) is Multiplayer in HL2 , as we all gathered this probly isnt true, but we nvr know

If valve doesnt mention TF2 or HL2 Multiplayer at E3 , it means its a possibility (yet again probly not tho )

Valve have stated sooo many times that TF2 is a different game, but anyway.

A vehicle with more than person in it. A show of more of the co-operative AI, not really anything storyline related.

the only way that would happen is if its scripted, the crater would be in the same place everytime and would be hit by the same blast every time and triggered the same way (well, there could be multiple triggers)

I just want to see any kind of multiplayer in action. Or more like to see how cool it looks to shoot a player in the head with a shotty, 10 cm away from him so that the victim goes flying in ragdoll in the most super cool way :b
But if it had to be single player, I would like to see the same done to a combine soldier :p

Ye i wuld like to see some more Shotty to combine ragdoll action in a weather terrain. *hint hint Gabe*

I would like to see more fight scenes like barricade, and maybe weather effects and the buggy sliding in the rain! That would be pretty sweet.

Only 10 days to go Ladies and Gentlemen , till this years E3 Trade show.

Then again there might not b new downloadble vids like barricade etc , might jus be one e3 trailer.....we jus nvr know.

I want multiplayer action in the next half-life 2 trailer vids!!!!!
