What was this movie!

So as a child I viewed some odd movie. As I remember, the art style was similar to the animated hobbit movie. The main character was a dragon, or a guy who turned into a dragon, or something like that. He had this companion who had a seventies mustache and a sword, and there were a couple other people too. They were on some quest to kill this emperor who turned into a big red and grey multiheaded dragon and at the end exploded. A specific scene I remember which may or may not be from the same movie, they were in a desert surrounded by giant crickets or something like that and the chirping was driving them crazy so they had their hands over their ears and were yelling.

vague enough? anyone know what I'm talking about?
