I've just been looking at the unreal engine 3.0 page, and I can honestly tell you it looks remarkable (Which is a first for me as I'm always scepticle), Source has a lot of competition, even from gamebryo (The engine being used for the latest elder scrolls game, which was also used in MW). Although there has been talk of HDR in the Source engine, I feel they have to take note of how slow level loading is to the likes of other games, notably MW, which was released in 2002 and loaded at a blink of an eye.

Sorry about that, tis most likely because you don't have the latest version of flash player, just use www.unrealtechnology.com and go on from there. You proberbly know most info anyhow, buit theres nothing wrong with getting a refresher

Well, Valve wanted image based rendering for HL2, but hardware wasn't ready, so that will go into future Source products most likely.

You forget,
Source was made to allow its core components(Graphics, Physics engines etc..) to be swapped out with newer technology with ease.

Also I believe valve said HL2 only used 20% of all of Sources features or something like that. Not sure really.

How many games using the Source engine are in developement? Is there a way to find that info?

Would the lost coast then be 30% of the tech (HDR lighting)

Theese games are slated for next generation technology and havent even come out yet.

Source has a lot of time to upgrade the weakest elements which is the shadowing.

Source is very scalable, it should compete with new technology easily.

I think Valve stated before they weren't using Source to it's greatest capability due to the hardware limitations of PCs at the time Half-Life 2 was developed.
