What would you do if you buy HL2 and it blows to kingdom come

yeah well to put it short: ain't gonna happen..

to put it long: Dunno, prolly go crazy, lose faith in mankind and start waiting for DNF.. haha..

Btw: Sending Gabe a letter with "you're fired" is the same thing if I was to say
*locked* to lock a thread..

I would do what I always do when I play a shitty game... never play it again.

Alot of you (presumably the kiddies) refuse to accept the fact that this game may well suck. Anyone else here follow Chrome? Has absolutely brilliant graphics, was very promising, but it sucks. It really really sucks. The same thing could happen to HL2.

It's the fanboys who'll refuse to accept that it sucks, if it sucks. There's quite a few already who have the attitude

"HL2 will be the best game ever no matter what"

You have to watch out for people like that. They're dangerous to us all!

Well it depends what you mean by 'follow'. No I did not follow Chrome because I thought it looked dull from the previews but I've read and seen pretty much everything available for HL2 and everything leads me to think it'll be awesome; particularly the game design ideas of Valve. To me it's the interviews with Marc Laidlaw and Gabe Newell that ask about their thoughts on game design and where games will go in the future that hype me up for HL2 because they say so much more than "shadows make games scary!" There will always be the chance that mistakes may be made in execution, but they have a very sound grip on how to make amazing, innovative games and that does not seem to suggest that it "may well suck."

Real life possibility, despite pretty bink videos.

Remember Unreal 2 (that was last year some time ;) )
Very pretty tech demo movies, people drooling over it. It comes out. It blows. It blows so bad that the company who developed it are now non-existant.

to a degree of blowing less (as I find it VERY fun) Deus Ex 2.
Not as popular as it should have been, due to high requirements and rushed to meet their release date (when it comes here to Australia, they are timing it with the 1.2 patch so we will see it more pretty than the United States  ). Sure, the company have already easily made their money on it, it's a hit for them. Plus in a way it's free feedback for Thief 3 engine (same engine).
But anyway, Deus Ex 2. People drooled over the screenshots and the occasional movie that came out...but lots of people were dissapointed when it came out. (but I still like it)

Graphics do not make up gameplay, and any trailer is guaranteed to highlight the best looking parts of the game... but think back to physics town... That level to me looks beyond scripted. Replayability...well, I can't really see it. I actually hope that it's not ingame material but was just to show off the Havok Physics.

There is a very real chance of the game failing, just as there is any game. There is no such thing as a guaranteed hit.

Take the DOOM 3 disc out of my computer.

Insert Halflife 2 disc.

Start again.

:D

If it sucks, I'll shrug, and move onto other things.

It's a game...it's not that important.

I DO think it's going to have an incredibly hard time living up to HL1 and that, for many, may equal sucking. Some of the expectations I am seeing around the net are going to be impossible to reach.

For me, as long as it's close to the original (even if not quite as good, but close), I'll be very happy with it.

All the features Valve has talked about, the attitude of Valve toward making the game and the philosophy of a true gaming community that Valve has created will make this game the best ever.

Of course it could suck, but I have faith that it won't because all the interviews tell me they really are making a game that they believe in just like Half-Life.

I've already played it it's ****ing awesome. So **** you guys that say it will suck

HL² and a negative word (blow) in the same sentance? WTF is this guy talking about??!? I dont get it!

Argh headcraps havent seen one of them for ages, spend to much time in general off topic, anyhow..... if it sucked well its very simple- get pissed off and dont play it, however this situation is impossible for 2 reasons: its hl2!+ ill get someone else to waste their money first to see if its crap or not :)

Hmmm I'd probably feel pretty bad for the valve crew... If hl2 did go south, they would almost certainly be destroyed by it. The game will still sell well at first and they will make there money back for sure, but not so many will buy or follow the next valve product etc. You guys have to remember the sequel is almost never as good as the first Cough*matrix reloaded*cough but on rare occasions the sequel ends up being better than the original. They have a lot of hype and expectation to live up to, and i'm pretty sure they are aware of this. Considering they've been on this project almost five years running, I doubt they would invest that much time and money to make a stinker. These guys play games to i'm sure, and they know whats good and whats not. So lets just wait and see.

I Agree with Innervision, this game is majorly hyped, HL2 will have to be the second comming of christ to live up to some peoples expectations. To steal his comment about Reloaded, on of my friends that hadn't seen the origional thought that Realoaded was pretty good.

I doubt it is going to 'blow' given that it is bringing new features into the mix to enhance the storyline/gameplay. Also given that the team behind HL¹ are the same team working on HL² I find it hard to imagine that they did a collective 'romero'. At worse HL² is going to equal HL¹ in storyline, atmosphere and gameplay. Hardly a devastating result.
