Hello, I have already started to prepare for the launch and development of my all round editing website. It will include Video Tutorials for 3dsmax, xsi, Photoshop hammer etc... I have started preparation and development of a wide range of video tutorials but I need some help.

First of all, take this into account. The Hammer video tutorials will not walk you through step by step how to make the best map in the world. They will be small individual tutorial projects which will teach single peaces.

E.g. How to make physical blinds
How to make water
How to make skies
How to trigger explosions
etc....

Also each tutorial will be structured. So this means that, lets say u wish to watch the very advanced video tutorial about how to use advanced physics. This may include entities and brush work. So you will be noted that you have to do the following video tutorials to understand what’s going before you do the advanced tutorial. I am doing this because it will save me going over the same things such as how to add an entity in each video tutorial.

Hopefully that has all made sense and now comes the question. Take into account what I have just said. Could you please give me some ideas about what you would like to see? Remember to make them individual, so in some sense someone could visit the website confused about how to do something. Watch the tutorial then go back to work and implement what I have taught into there own maps.

Thanks, hopefully I have made sense.

P.S. Yes I have made video tutorials before and yes and I have used hammer for a long time. I plan on making a small amount of tutorials to start things of and help me get a web designer/programmer. If you wish to help just ask. Anyway I am not really at that stage atm and don't expect this to happen over night.

For some of my older video tutorials go to: http://tutorials.moddb.com/16/

new stuff and tricky stuff like:

1. nodraw texture
2. 3d skybox
3. import textures
4. basic XSI modelling and importing into the game
5. tips-n-tricks on mapping (r_speed optimization and gameplay decisions)

how to make an basic elevator...i can't find anything good on this subject yet except func_tracktrain, i want to see it using func_movelinear with button help and so forth... that would rock!

I would like to know more about texture alignment and how to create more complex brushes.

Thanks IchI you have no Idea how much I appreciate this.

I just finished you 3dsMax VTM's which where amazing. All the other tutorials on the internet sucked. You are on par with 3dbuzz as far as im concerned.

Looking forward to your new ones.

what about how to effectively do simple stuff. like the proper way to texture, working with props (prefabs), and effective lighting.

I'd love to see some good XSI video tutorials. Hammer is fairly simplistic compared to XSI. Also, i'd like to see some tutorials for moving things from XSI to Hammer as well as texture moving.

Try to find out whatever 3dBuzz is doing and cover whatever topics they aren't.

Personnaly, I can't stand 3dbuzz, the tutorials are always Ultra-Basic, and go very rarely in dept, and they keep on laughing on stupid jokes for hours... Anyhow, I think what would be cool is a video where you'd have a pre-modeled table or something, and a texture for it, then you'd show how to export the files and import them back into hammer...

About your website - you'd need to find a pretty good host for this, as those videos are pretty big...

I already have a host :D A good one at that as well :D

Hey, this could be useful. My friends and I want to start a map...

I was wondering if you could show the input/output system? For example, in the E3 tech demo where there was a video camera and it's picture was on the TVs in the room and whenever it moved it updated the image? That would be SUPER useful on our map.

What Would You Like To See In A Video Tutorial?

How'bout "making your first complete map, from start to finish," featuring some of everything you'll ever need to use.

I followed a tut like that for Thief mapping, and there's no better way to learn.

One video tutorial that I would love to see would be:

*How to make various types of player/NPC controlled mounted weapons, how to get them to fire different types of projectiles, and a few things like that.

:)

A tutorial on tips and tricks on to making a map lag less, that would be a good tutorial.

I'm with trigger. How to align textures, etc (More effectivly).
And better textureuse and any tips and tricks on texture use while you're on it.

That's what I need, right now anyway. Elevator tut would be useful later on but it's not needed right now. (For me)

Maybe a video on using the displacement tool, all of it. I think that'd be very helpful.

hm, some porn would be nice, just like 2 minute brake with some soft porn, mapping is taking on your strenght.

I would like to see a series of videos that will cover pretty much everything you need to know to create a map and play it....but this would be time consuming for you so anything u wish to make would be great

Ai node placement. And just different Ai commands in general personally. But that "An entire map with different things you may use in other maps" sounds good. Good VTs btw.

valve need to release some of the game maps so that we can see how to do things.

oops, heh, wrong thread.

I wana see how to make a func_breakable_surf done correctly i want to see an elevator like previously stated and exactly how to make it appear to have more than one texture on one surface like have brick then put windows on it "im still new at this"

you can make short tutorials and mix some things together like proper use of hint brush and use of func_breakable_surf

  • Proper Usage of hint brushes
  • Input/Output system Tutorials to create complex interactions.
  • Overview and Implementation of the physics entities like the ballsocket, lenghtconstraint, constraint system, and other weird felows.
  • Overview and Implementation of some of the more obscure and 'scary' entities like the ai_, cycler, filter etc.
  • Map optimization to keep higher detail vs lag/resource RAPE

Just some of the ones that mean something to me. Whatever you do, It'll be great. Your dynamic light on the swinging overhead lamp was a very cool one spurred me into making some interestign suspended light creations.

Beginner-Glass Tutorial

I think a simple tutorial on glass would be very helpful and maybe include how to add breakable glass into a door because im having lots of problems with glass over all

How to make a rigged coast line would be cool. Like coves or bays somtihng like that.

Ooooooo nice! That cool guy that did the other tuts :D.

Well mabe IchI should make a list of what he would most like to do or what he thinks would be best and then everyone vote for it? :)

I would like to get a tutorial on fixing displacments that when you go to sew them you get the "must line up with 3 same edges" error and general tips and hints for displacements. i made a nice cave but I cannot get the front entrance which is l__l shape to sew up with the main part of the map.
