what you think of my texture

hey what do you think of my texture. this is pretty much the first thing ive textured. naaier talked me through some techniques. also how would i make a specular map of this to make it look shiny ingame. what areas of it would need to be white and what areas black etc.

needs work man but its pretty good for your first texture the render is prety bad stupid xsi :mad: so i dont know really lets see it ingame:D
 
thanks guys. archvilell i basicly render clouds add noise blur. then evened it out a bit with dodge. then i may have added some effects to it but i cant really remember. then i went over it with the stamp tool from a picture of a dogbowl that naaier sent me lol.
 
hey crack (whats your real name?) a good practise while texturing is do refrain from using ps filters. you should start out with a base layer of 50% grey and then keep defining details with dodge/burn . after you're satisfied with the shading then add texture with noise or overlays .
 
That looks pretty good for your first texture. My suggestion is to increase the brightness/contrast on the edge of the blade to give the appearance of sharpness. There's probably a better way to do it than that, I'm no texture artist... But whatever the method you use, the result should make it look much better.
 
well its the bottom of the blade thats the sharp bit and from the angle the character will hold it you wont see it so i dont think it matters.
 
Looks nice, only problem is its a little flat. I think all it needs is abit of defonition of the sharpe bit of the blade if you know what i mean.

See, only decent pic i could find in 30 seconds. You can see the tone chance where the knife comes in around the sharpe bit of the blade that thats a pritty much universial symbol of a sharpe knife. You could probly get it in with abit of dodge and burn.
