if life was meant to be fun, then none of us would be going to work or school. If life was meant to be fun you wouldnt spend 6 hours in a building each day for the rest of your life. Life is indeed only what we make of it. I'm not sure about a higher power, I used to follow god but I figure that if there is a higher power, blind faith won't make them be. People have many religions, follow many different gods, they believe them all to be true because they believe they are deep in their hearts. To me it seems sad that only one of them could be right, and the rest, after all their devotion, will end up in Hell, whatever form that might chose to take.
I guess I'm an Athiest, I don't follow any religion but I do try to stay true to a few principles, mostly Christian, simply because I think it's good for me and others. I don't know if I believe in a higher power, I believe it's not my place to believe in such a thing. If it wants to be found it will present itself to me at some stage, otherwise I have nothing to base my beliefs on, it would simply be a 'life choice', which I think is kind of shallow :/
