whats half life source like?

Ragdolls, water looks great, Shaders are implemented, shadows are good, textures look alittle better, models updated, 3d skybox and game feels better.

Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source = Incredibly awesome.

Half-Life: Source = Ridicolous. Its very hard to see any significant differences except the water.

Half-Life: Source is pretty much the exact same as HL. There are some very trivial differences, but they don't make it worth playing through again.

HL:S = Scam. DOD:S had better be a big improvement because right now I'm pissed I got silver. I played the first 20 minutes of the game and realized...I payed $10 for ragdolls and shadows in HL?

HL:S wasn't a scam. It was direct port of Half-Life to Source. Nothing more.

Well, in all honesty, right now it blows much sack on many levels. The difference in graphics is small, only the water and some particle effects look different. At least the physics are there, although they don't do much for you (besides making it really fun to take down grunts with the shotgun.) It also has some brand new bugs that werent in Half-life1.
Of course, this is only it's current state. Valve is going to upgrade it soon with high-poly models and better textures soon (right?). oh... they better....

Amish everyone knew what HL:S was going to be... It was a direct porl, Cs:S is not a direct port.
DoD wont be a direct port.

Teta, valve wont need to. Thats the communites job. Infact, alot of people are already set to do it.

I don't think so. The amount of textures in Half-Life is so vast that replacing them with hi-res ones would take... well, it would take a shitload of work. They would've done it with the high-def pack if it were easy.

Wow i cant stand kids that say stuff like that. Its a direct port + you never payed for hl:s

A normal fps game costs $50-55 thats 1 game. valve are giving you

Hl2 (which is $55 alone)
and
Cs:s for $55

If you buy the silver pack. ($60)
You are getting hl2 ($55)
and for
a WHOLE $5 more (oh shit that must be to much)
your getting
Cs:s
Dod:s
Hl:s
and ALL other games valve has ever made.

What ****ing more do you what? Retards like this piss me off so much its ridiculous.

I R teh sad ;(
Speaking of the high-def pack, why didn't Valve put that in with Half-life source in the first place? That would have made the graphics 10x better. I tried putting the old HL1 high-def models into the HL:S directory manually. When i started the game, everyone was a giant red ERROR sign. Guess they aren't backwards compatible...

I guess I should've picked another word than "scam". I always use that word for other contexts. I should've said... HL:S = Lame

Also...I already paid for all of Valve's other titles :p so they aren't new to me. Also HL2 is $50 in retail stores around here.

HL: Source was just to prove they could direct port from the HL1 engine into the source engine, Its an added bonus, they aren't going to spend much time on it.

I liked the little I saw of Half-Life: Source. The graphics feature an ever so slight improvement, but it's nothing major. It's basically Half-Life in a new engine with the same models and textures. I expected nothing more and nothing less.

That said, it does feel more "solid" for whatever reason. It's nothing I can put my finger on as the gameplay mechanics are, as far as I can tell, identical to the original release, but it just feels better. It seems to load faster and run smoother.

Had you said "a voice of sanity in a chorus of morons" or "a drop of sanity in a sea of morons", it would have made sense.

Yes it was always stated that HL:S was a pretty direct port, so no one should be let down because it wasnt ever toted up to be anything more than that.

On the lighter side, people who have played through HL tons of times like me will appreciate the small differences. I'm playing through it now and i've noticed several enhancments the source engine has added, like water (duh), and smoother outside environments (no more seems in the ground!). Also the ragdoll effect is pretty cool on all the classic enemies, and the 3D skybox on the cliff level was absolutly awesome. The outside environments also have blending textures, blending the sand into rock along the walls and stuff.

Actually, I felt that the HL:S port was inferior to the original. While many textures were improved, I noticed a lot of tiny details, like animations, were off. The robotic walker now had skating feet that didn't stick properly. Several animations in other areas were a frame off or such. I went back to the HL copy I own and compared, and it really does seem that the port lacks the polish of the original.

Not that I expected polish... this was a test, a direct port to see how it would fare. But I think do not think the port is an improvement at all, I think it is inferior. Reminds me of a song remix... some people may like it more, but to fans of the original it just sounds edited and off.

I havent seen the updated models...they are the same from original hl, not from blue shift-whats going on?
